I was using various EF shampoo/conditioners for myself and EMAB for DD, but I'm really struggling. I want to use some that is EF, but financially I'm not able to shell out $12 for a small bottle of shampoo and the same for conditioner for myself. I'm ashamed to admit I've switched back to Suave for myself, although I continue to use EMAB for DD for now I'm planning on using Dr. B's in a foaming pump for body wash for both of us.
The thought occurred to me about possibly making my own. Has anyone attempted to do this and what recipe did you use? TIA!!
Re: Recipe for EF and homemade shampoo/conditioner
You should check out the no 'poo method using baking soda and apple cider vinegar. It's been great for my hair, and it's super cheap!

Yes definitely no 'poo!
here's a link on how to do it.

We use the following recipe for shampoo, body wash and face wash:
1 c. water
1 c. Dr. Bronner's
1 TBSP olive oil
Mix them together in a spray bottle and voila!
I haven't personally tried it, but I've heard awesome things about DIY flaxseed gel for curly hair. It doesn't coat your hair or cause build-up like 'cones do, so you can use it with the no 'poo method. Here's a recipe:
I've also found that the curls are more defined in my naturally wavy hair since trying the no 'poo method. You might be surprised how your hair reacts once it's able to hold onto it's own natural oils!
I have been doing the no poo with VERY curly hair all week (I was using organic shampoo and conditioner before that) and I have just used oils to make my hair manageble while it adjusts to the change. There are ideas for gel and hairspray on this site I used... so you can make your own and still do no poo. My hair feels amazing... and besides a little frizz it looks amazing too (and I have used no product.
Here is the site.

I've been considering no'poo myself and am happy to hear that many with curly hair are having great results.
How about the smell from the vinegar? I've heard some say that the smell goes away fairly quickly - have you found this to be true?
I tried a variation on the no'poo from facenaturals.com - they had a vinegar shampoo rinse that used citrus to compliment/mask the smell of the vinegar, but I found it so strong. It seemed my hair just clung to the scent, and my husband would complain of the orangey vinegar scent in my hair.
