Do you and DH celebrate Valentine's Day?

DH and I don't do much for eachother for Valentine's day, I guess it just seems like a holiday I was more into with my high school boyfriend, or whatever.  We use it as an excuse to go out to dinner alone and have sex later, but that's about it.  Are we the only ones?

Re: Do you and DH celebrate Valentine's Day?

  • We don't even go out to dinner!  We go out before Valentine's Day around the time of our anniversary of our first date.  Cheaper that way too because we're not fighting the Valentine's Day crowds.

  • DH refuses to go out on Valentine's Day because he says it's "amateur night."  We usually cook a great meal at home (one year he made a to-die-for risotto and dipped strawberries in chocolate himself).  We also like to celebrate with the boys as a family.  I get them little gifts but DH and I don't exchange gifts at all.

  • Nope.  Some years we go out on our wedding anniversary on Feb 7, but doubt we'll do that this year.  We went way overboard for DH's birthday last week, so will probably just do a nice dinner at home.

  • We go to dinner and exchange cards. No gifts. I have already made reservations at a place we like and just need to follow through with a sitter. We don't get all crazy and if we couldn't get a sitter for some reason it wouldn't be the end of the world.

  • Yes, DH & I do celebrate V-day.  We go out ot dinner and exchange cards.  My Mom or MIL will babysit DS for us.

For us it is kinda special, since we only go out to dinner DH & I alone on V-day and our anniversary.

  • It would feel weird to me to not recognize it at all - I realize its a silly holiday, but NOT doing anything almost feels spiteful to love and romance.  We normally make a nice dinner and DH gets me flowers and I get him somethign small - chocolate or something.  Nothing extravagant, but something.

  • We usually do a little something. Maybe a nicer dinner(at home though), flowers, cards, chocolates or cookies. My parents were married on Valetine's Day so I usually send them gifts too.

  • DH and I started dating in high school and right before Valentines day we were both grounded. DH convinced his mom and my mom to let him come over to make me dinner. He made me spaghetti. So now every Valentine's day we stay in and make spaghetti for dinner Smile

  • My husband is always cheesy about it with cards and flowers and fancy gifts but I'm not.  I'll do something small but I'm not a big romantic.  Also Valentines is hard.  We have always worked (and now we work together) and so we don't get to really enjoy it.  Last year we went out to a fancy lunch only to get into a huge fight over an employee my husband wanted to retain and I felt should be laid off.  It wasn't cool.

  • DH and I have never been into Valentine's Day.  Except maybe our 1st!  We just exchange cards.  Going out to dinner on the actual Valentine's Day to me is just a pita.  It is usually cold and snowy here and the restaraunts are very crowded.  DD however seems very excited about it this year.  She keeps talking about making heart cookies!

  • We use it as an excuse to go to a nice dinner and exchange cards. A lot of restaurants in our area do a prix fixe menu with wine pairings, so it's kind of a fun night to splurge. However, this year with my due date on February 8, I doubt we'll be going out.

DS and I usually make valentine's to give to his grand and great-grand parents. And we do something fun for his daycare.

  • We don't even go out to dinner - it's too crowded and over priced.  And we don't really buy gifts either.

We do celebrate but not on every V-day, depends on that DH has time or not.

  • No, we never have since we've been together and especially since we got married. Our anniversary is the 25th, so we usually get away for that, things are so much cheaper the week after Valentines :)

  • We typically plan a nice dinner at home, and I usually make him a card with the girls. This year, though, we're going to Paris for Valentine's Day. :)

  • Nope and never really have.  We got engaged the New Year's Day before our 1st Valentine's Day and I was out of the country on a trip I planned before we met that 1st year.  We got married a week after Valentine's the next year and had just gotten home from our honeymoon and again, had no interest in really doing anything.  DH gets me flowers for our anniversary and we go out to dinner then.  We get the girls something small each year but that is about it.  Oh, the year I was pregnant with our 1st (our 2nd married Valentine's Day, DH made a really nice dinner at home and got the china out and everything but that is the most we have every done.  My parents send us homemade cookies every year and that is our treat.  So not a big deal for us.

  • we love celebrating valentines day! DH's big on gift giving holidays. And i like receiving gifts. we steer clear of usual restaurant choices and normally celebrate at home, but our DD to bed early and order thai food and sushi and sit on the floor in front of the tv and eat and watch a movie. its really nice and i look forward to it every vday/new years/bday/cinco de mayo er whatever. its our tradition.

  • Last year was my favorite VD ever. So cheesy, though, but it was fun.

I saw an ad for a father-daughter dance at a local community center. Mentioned it to DH, he kind of said, meh, let's do our own thing instead.

So we did. DD and I put up valentine's decorations, streamers and such. Pushed all our living room furniture to the walls to clear out a "dance floor." I put on a dress, DH put on a suit, and Lily wore her Cinderella dress. DH brought flowers for both of us, we had dinner, and then turned on some music and we had our "dance." It was perfect, and I think it's going to be an annual tradition.

As for the romance factor, DH and I can just have a date night any time that suits us. Our anniversary is a more important romance date than VD.

  • We celebrated Valentine's Day every year before we got married. For the past 9 years, though, it's no different than any other day. I actually like V-day, but unfortunately, DH does not =(
