Proactive

I have always had problems with acne.  I am the only female in my family who suffers from acne (go figure!) ... anyways, when I was on BCP, the acne was under control.  I went off BCP in July, and just recently, my acne has become worse.  I'd say around November/December.  So, I bought Proactive and it was beginning to work.  Of course, I ran out and had to wait on my shipment so my face looks like a disaster right now.  Let me get to the point- I got my Proactive today, and I'd like to begin using it as I know it helps a lot.  I see differing opinions on whether it should be used.  Who else is using Proactive? I mean, is it okay to use?

Re: Proactive

  • I definitely plan on it at my Jan. 31st appointment.  I wonder if it is okay for me to use in the meantime.

  • I was wondering the same thing.  I stopped using it until I can run it by my doctor.

  • My doctor said products with Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic Acid shouldn't be used during pregnancy and gave me a prescription (Clindamycin) to use instead. Hope that helps!

  • I may just use the face wash until I can speak with my doctor.  I am just so upset by this acne.  My face has not looked this bad in a long time!

  • I was told to avoid benzoyl peroxide, but I still use the Proactiv wash (just not the toner or lotion) occasionally. I have also had the lovely gift of acne (including two rounds of Accutane, one as a teen and one as an adult) and Proactiv has really helped keep it under control.

  • I would stop using it until your doctor appointment.

  • I used it all throughout my pregnancy with DD. I mentioned it to my OB once and she wasn't really concerned. The only problem I really had was my skin being a little more sensitive to the products than when I wasn't pregnant.

  • Glad you made a post about this. I use the facewash at night and hadn't even thought about it being bad during pregnancy.

He's my fairytale, a dream when I'm not sleeping.

  • I think I will continue to use it, and just put the repairing lotion on the blotches, as opposed to all over my face.  I read the toner does not have benzoyl peroxide.  Instead, it has witch hazel in it (I don't know if that is a no-no during pregnancy or not).  I'll ask the nurse practitioner at my appointment.  My acne looks horrible right now.  It has not looked this bad in a while, and I am so insecure about it.  I am thankful for make-up during the day, but at night it just looks awful!

  • I heard acne products with  Salicylic Acid should not be used during pregnancy without consulting your doctor - it depends on the level in the ingredients so I would bring your bottle//tube in with you.I stopped using mine just in case and use Biore now (daily cleansing) - the complexion clearing line has 2% Salicylic Acid in it, I didnt check to see if that level was safe, I just switched.
