Seriously can't stand it when people say dumb things about pregnancy

So I'm only 4 weeks along and haven't told very many people. However, I did tell one of my coworkers and her response was that she already knew because I said I wasn't feeling well a couple of weeks ago and last week I suddenly got a burst of energy. What?! That doesn't even make sense and of course, didn't even happen. Why do people feel the need to pretend that they already knew and then make up some dumb explanation as proof. I've also had some people tell me they could tell because I looked like I gained weight. My scale says otherwise. Share your stories...

Re: Seriously can't stand it when people say dumb things about pregnancy

  • No one has said anything like that to me but I have heard some silly things. I'm 10 weeks and I have had several ppl aske me what I'm having..., REALLY?  I wish I could tell already. Then the other night my friends girlfriend asked me if my dog could tell I was pregnant. I said I wasn't sure, he is a little more loving. What was her response? "OH, well my dogs can tell  when I'm on my rag, and they like to smell my vag" EWWWW!! How is that even the same thing?? People have issues.

  • I can't stand all the people who when I told them I had something to tell them, they blurted out "You're pregnant" ummm - ya could you try to pretend to be surprised or something??? We didn't even tell anyone we were trying and had only been trying for a short time. Everyone said "they just knew it". Thanks for taking the wind out of my sails.
  • In my last pregnancy I use to frequent a coffee stand and the barista said to me once something like "I love that when people are pregnant their face gets fatter, you can totally tell you are pregnant"....uh WTF? No tip for you.

  • Some people have no tact Angry How rude!
  • Reason #152 I haven't told anyone yet. Sorry your coworker apparently doesn't have a filter.

  • I told my MIL at Christmas and she told me she knew at Thanksgiving  because I looked so much bigger and rounder. I was only 4 weeks at the time. So I kindly explained to her that I was not pregnant at thanksgiving she argued with me that I had to be because I had gained so much weight. (I had actually lost 5lbs after I stopped drinking pop in preparation for TTC.)

  • Oh it gets better the further along you get.  Being pregnant is like wearing a sign that says say something stupid to me or give me all of your unwanted advice.

  • My brother and his wife came over and I did the bun in the oven way of announcing. After they saw the one bun in our oven, they didn't even congratulate us! They said "yeah we knew because you went black friday shopping" I'm like WTF? I got black friday shopping every.single.year! People are dumb.

  • agreed.

pre-pregnancy, I am a marathon runner - a couple weeks back I missed 1 morning of work because of a running injury and when I told work last friday that i'm pregnant, several people said "I knew it - i knew it when you took that morning off"

ya.  I took that morning off because I pulled a muscle in my HIP - not because I have a baby in my belly.  thanks, geeks ;)

  • This is funny, because I told DH a few hours ago that when he told people I was expecting, if they said, "I thought so!" or "I knew it!" or anything like that, NOT to tell me because it would peeze me off. I haven't gained any weight, so basically to me it would be the equivalent of, "I thought you looked fatter!" or "I knew that's why you were being weird!".

Not helpful, not nice, shut up. You didn't know.

Quite literally laughed out loud...good thing I"m the only one in the office until 8..haha

When I told my mom at Christmas she said "I knew it, you've been tired and sick since the wedding!" I stopped her and said "We got married in September, and AF was in November..." She still said she knew this whole time...and now she's making predictions about when I'm due and the sex and everything....omg.

I feel like people need to say "I totally knew" because it's the only thing that comes to their mind - they find all the things that have been off about you lately and they use that as fuel...geez

  • We told my in-law's Christmas night and their response was. "I thought you might be since you wouldn't have any wine and we KNOW how much you like it." Maybe that doesn't sound that weird but at the time it totally made it sound like I'm an alcoholic that has to have her drink cause they mentioned it multiple times.

My FIL also told me, in a like a real slow "hope she can understand it" kind of way "In a couple months you might be feeling a little bit sick". I was already about 7 weeks at this point and feeling just fine, which I had told them. Guys talking about pregnancy like they know is just funny and hard to take serious.
