TTC after 35

Uneducated newbie here with a ?

You guys all are so knowledgeable about what's going on with your cycles etc. I know some but can anyone tell me what it means if your cycle lasts like 39 days? After my period finally started coming back it seemed all over the place, like one time I had a close to normal cycle of 32 days but mostly it seemd like they were 37 or 39 days apart. I didn't know if I was even ovulating becuse I didn't get spooked into seriously TTC until after my M/C last week...BTW my little bit of history: I was 35 when I actually decided I wanted kids and got PG 2 months after TTC after coming off the pill and having been on it for 17 years. SO I had pretty normal periods even after I came off the birth control. Then the same thing happened when we TTC our DD- got PG two months after TTC. Then my periods came back but were sporadic just berfore my DD turned 1. and I even skipped a month and didn't have a period at all. I stopped BF in july of that year, so I undewrstand why they were kind of weird at that time. They were still really far apart even in December when I had gotten PG then and then Had the M/C last week....any input would be super helpful.

  • One thing you might want to keep in mind is that a 28 day is cycle is average, but it is "normal" to have a cycle that is shorter or longer than that.  For example my normal cycle lately is around 33 days.  Here is a good link that explains some of that: https://women.webmd.com/tc/normal-menstrual-cycle-topic-overview

It may be your normal to have a longer cycle.  Temping and charting can give you a better idea of what's going on.  You can sign up on fertility friend and there are tutorials that can get you started.  You can click on the ticker in my or someone else's signature.

I'm sure the other ladies will have more to add.

  • When in doubt, speak with your obgyn. My cycles have been fairly short - 24 days - and some places on the net had me frightened that it was way too short. My obgyn said there's a lot of room for variations in cycle length, and that mine was fine. My gut says yours if fine too.
