Can you please tell me about your experience delivering at NOVI Providence. (I am having a scheduled c-section) How are the rooms? Do you have your own shower? How were the accommodations for you DH? Did he sleep comfortably? I gave birth to my two sons at St Joes so this will be our first time at NOVI Providence. Any info you have is helpful.
Thanks!

I delivered there in October and it was great.
While their lactation consultants are amazing, I felt that their night nurses were not supportive of breast feeding and tried to push formula to make things easier on them. I had 2 different night nurses who encouraged me to give formula so I could rest since my bloop pressure was high.
But other than that, everything went very smoothly. You get a private room with a couch/bed for DH, bathroom w/shower, meals delivered -- I never even left the room. You will obviously have to leave for the c/s, but recovery will be in the room, as well. The baby never leaves, either, unless you want them to go to the nursery to sleep.
Ditto this. I had the same night nurse both nights I was there, she miscalculated Gabe's weight loss, gave him formula in the nursery without my consent and then kept bringing him back for me to try and nurse him when he clearly wasn't hungry (the last night we were there they talked me into sending him to the nursery). I reported her the next morning to the LC and the daytime nurse. This night nurse was fine the first night, but the 2nd she was horrible. My advice to this is to stand your ground if you are planning on nursing. I was a first time mom and was so exhausted and hormonal I allowed myself that last night to get pushed around. It wasn't detrimental to my bf relationship with Gabe, but it really upset me. I will say my daytime nurse was AMAZING. She actually spotted the early warning signs of PPD in me, and while at the time I was angry, it was really awesome that she gave me a lot more info then what they normally give just in case.

I had a c-section there back in April with my 33 week baby. Overall I liked it.Even though I hated the c-section and things were different because I was so early, the doctors and nurses were very nice overall. The rooms were nice, and DH had a place to sleep. I felt very cared for, and did think that most of my nurses supported my breastfeeding, even though our baby was in the special care unit and never in our room.
This. My night nurse was awful. She told me that my LO was dehydrated because I wasn't waking up to feed him... he was sleeping, I was sleeping, we were all fine. She made me feel like an awful mom and basically told me he needed formula. She came in twice and woke up my LO and poured formula into his mouth. The next day the lactation consultant (who is amazing) came in and said that the nurse basically gave my LO the equivalent in formula of 2 Thanksgiving feasts. I was pissed! The LC explained that she tries her best to educate the nurses about proper feeding procedures but some nurses are very stuck in the old school, formula pushing mindset.
That said, I loved every other nurse that I had and had a wonderful experience there. I can't wait to deliver there again someday and since I've been through it once now, I won't let anyone push me around next time.
I had a C-section there earlier this month, it was not scheduled but recommended by my dr after my labor didn't progress. I really liked the hospital and the nursing staff. I thought all of the nurses were really nice, some were more attentive than others, but they always responded when I reached out to them. I felt supported with breast feeding in fact it was my delivery nurse who showed us how to get started (also great lactation consultants-just make sure to ask for them) and our baby stayed with us in our room the whole time. The only thing I didn't like and I think its just the nature of a c-section is that after my baby was born she and my husband went back to our room while I had to remain in the OR for another 20-30 to be sewn back up. Oh and the anesthesia folks were wonderful, especially the lady who checked on me during labor and she even sat at my side during the delivery. I felt well cared for - in fact I was nervous about going home. Will definitely have my future children here!
As for the bedding for DH - they provide a sheet & blanket but it is a couch and not a bed so not the most comfortable but it worked. We are both glad we brought our own pillows - love my memory foam pillow.
