Preemies

Flu shot for preemie?

Hi ladies,

Question for you regarding flu shots. At our pedi appointment today, we got all the regular 6 month shots, plus her synagist, and the pedi was recommending that we get a flu shot, but didn't want to to it today because that was a lot of vaccines at one time. We made another appointment to go back in 2 weeks for the flu shot. My concern is that isn't it pretty late in the season to be getting the flu shot? Is it even necessary at this point? I hate to have to make her go through with it if the benefit is minimal (doesn't flu season end in February?)

Thanks for your input.

  •  Yes. I would 100% get the Flu shot right now. Because, really you can get the Flu any time of the year.

It is totally your call though.

  • I would get the shot. It is never fun watching them go through the pain. Just remember it for their health. I always get the flu shot for my DS.

The flu "season" might vary by where you live, but most of the time it's Oct/November through March/April.

  • I would do it. Even if the flu season ends in February that's about six more weeks to contract it but I've read flu season goes through April.  To me the flu is more of a concern than contracting something like rubella or one of the other diseases that have been nearly wiped out in the US by vaccines.

  • Thanks for all your input, ladies! She will definately be getting the flu shot next week. I didn't realize until I did some always-valuable internet research that 6 months was the minimum age for the flu shot.  So I was thinking, if they didn't think she needed it in November, why give it to her now? And I didn't think to ask the pedi at the appointment.
