No checkups between 6 and 12 months?

Reading through various posts I keep seeing references to well baby checks at 8 and 9 months.  The last scheduled checkup we had was at 6 months and at that time the pedi said the next checkup would be at 12 months.  Does this seems strange?  (We have Kaiser}

  • We don't have Kaiser so I'm not sure how they do things but our ped's office has always done 9 month appts. We'll then go at 12 months, 15 months, 18 months, 24 months and then yearly after that.

  • I think it depends on your dr.  I live in the same area w/ the same insurance as I did w/ DD1.  DD1 pedi had a diffn't pedi who saw her at 6 mo, 12 mo, 18, 2 yo and every yr after (like you).  Our new pedi sees the kids every 3 mo - 6, 9, 12,15,18, 2yo. The 9 mo appt is just a wellness height, weight-no vax at this dr.  I'm sure the vax schedule varies by drs too.

  • In Canada (well I guess I should say Saskatchewan cause I don't know about other provinces) we only see the health nurse after the 6 week visit and we do not have a 9 month visit.  Essentially we only see the health nurse when we get shots...2 mos, 4 mos, 6 mos, 1 year 18 mos 4 yrs.  Only see the Dr if kids are sick or I guess if you think there is a problem!  I would kinda like a 9 mo visit though!
  • You should call your pedi office and schedule a well check anyway.  There are no shots but my pedi asked us to go to a lab to get blood drawn to check iron and lead levels.  I know some bumpies said that their doctor's office did this blood draw in house. Just call and check.

  • At V's 6mo check up, the pedi said "see you in 6 months."  I realized from reading other people's posts that she needed a 9 month check, so she is going in this afternoon.

  • I was told to come in for his 9 month check, but that there would be no vaccinations this time.  We're going in next Friday for that appointment.

  • We also had a 9 month (not an 8 month). So, 6, 9, and 12. No shots at the 9 month one, though.

  • We have Kaiser too. We had a 9 month well baby check up (there is no copayment ) as was recommend by our NP. On our visit summary from the 6 month check, it said to return in three months. The same was true this time, we will return at 12 months.

  • I don't have kaiser anymore but I had kaiser when I had my DS and my pedi did a 9 month check up. Maybe your pedi said 12 but meant 9? I'd call and check.

    You should do it online, it's sooo much easier.

  • I have Kaiser and we had a 9 month well baby check. It's on all the Kaiser paperwork in the offices too.  I would call and check on that.  There wasn't any shots or anything but they checked for developmental milestones for the first time.
  • We had a 9m check but it was 10mins in-and-out.  The nurse did a height and weight check and pricked his finger for the lead and hemoglobin test (which P didn't even notice, thank goodness!) The Dr asked a few development questions and did a quick checkup and we were done. I was saying it would have been NBD to skip it!

    Of course, if you have any questions or concerns, call or schedule something. But I wouldn't stress over it otherwise.
