I know it has been a long time since our wedding planning days but I am trying to help my mom get more business. She had her own business for 20 years and then sold it. She kept her other store but it doesn't do near as good as her first one since it is on the complete opposite side of town. She doesn't have a website(I just got her a facebook page). She is really bad with computers and my dad won't help her. She is in the processof getting a website. She is thinking of doing a bridal show. so I wanted to know
1. What kind of bride show perk would make you book with a florist? (discount, something free?)
2. If you were to get a mailing what would make you notice it and not throw it in the trash? or would you rather get an email?
3. If you went to bridal shows what would make you want to stop and look in a booth? Beautiful flowers? a discount? a giveaway? More than likely I will go and help her at the shows.
4. If you were to win a free bridal bouquet would you be more likely to book that florist for the rest of your wedding?

I just booked some local florist that my mom kind of knew.. So I don't have a lot of input..
BUT.. if I were choosing blindly.. I would NOT NOT NOT choose a florist (or any wedding vendor) that did not have a good website. I truly believe EVERY business NEEDS to have a website. I feel like if they don't, something is wrong.
As for the bridal show stuff.. I dunno.. Perks wouldn't necessarily get me to book something.. I think they're generally something you could get anyway.. "show-only" deals annoy me. (same with the homeshow/fair deals).
When i was planning my wedding, I would have been just as likely to look at a mailing as an email. I saved a lot of that stuff.
A nice display would make me stop in a booth.. Not a give away, or a discount or anything else. Also.. make sure you have nice brochures/cards if you're doing a show.
No I wouldn't really book a florist for a free bridal bouquet.. again.. I tend to think those things are scams.. like a fake discount.
So, if I were to go to a bridal show looking for a florist (I don't ever remember looking at florists there). I would be looking for the nicest looking flowers for the best price.. and the person being nice/personable would be a huge bonus, but I know your mom would have no problem there since she's super sweet.

1. What kind of bride show perk would make you book with a florist? (discount, something free?) Actually a choice of free or discount. Like free bride's bouquet when you purchase X # of bride'smaid bouquet OR X% off entire order. I like to feel like I have a choice of incentives.
2. If you were to get a mailing what would make you notice it and not throw it in the trash? or would you rather get an email? I would rather snail mail, I get so much spam email I rarely open anything that isn't from someone I know. I also know lots of people who have a email address that they only use to give out at bridal shows and spammy places then never check it. I also prefer something colorful, laminated and a single page like a postcard over something stuffed in an envelope.

I have worked bridal shows with my BIL ( he is an ice carver and has a catering company) and it is always the carvings that draws people's attention. I notice the same with the cake ppl, the bigger fancier cakes draw more lingering ppl than tastings. I never notice with florists, but I would think it would be the same. Something beautiful, unique and over the top so ppl want to come ask about it. Even better, something that could be broken up at the end of the show and given away with her card, or ribbon with her business name and number attached to brides as they leave the show.

Yes, but I don't enter give aways at bridal shows since 75% of them are scams, like "winning" a free Honeymoon trip to cancun. Everyone wins and you have to sit through a cooking show which is really a very pushy sales presentation to buy cookware and the trip only includes a 2 night hotel stay, you have to pay airfare and fees, etc. They used to use the conferance room at a hotel I worked for, people who leave the presentation mad.
4. Anything you want to add about your florist? My florist insisted she didn't just drop the flowers and run. She said she made sure everyone got the right flowers and would be on hand for any potential issues while pinning flowers, etc. It was a tipping point for choosing her. Of course she lied and dropped the flowers in a pew, then was out of business when I got back from my honeymoon.

4. Anything you want to add about your florist? Customer service is key, maybe even above price. I loved that my florist listened to what I wanted, then threw out other options beyond what I had described, but didn't push her ideas on me.

The quality of the work and that it looked much different than other vendors in the same field. I'm not saying crazy modern but she puts her own spin on things and tries to set herself out from what is "standard" wedding flowers. I breezed past those vendors.

4. Anything you want to add about your florist? I loved my florist because when I came in with ideas she took them and helped me add her expertise to it, which is what I think a profession should do. Although there will be brides who want a specific picture and that is that. But for other open minded clients, it's great when you can come in with an idea the florist is eager and excited to help you make it come to life, add some pop that me not being a florist., would have ever thought about.
