Pregnant after IF

Spoiled from RE's office...

Met with my new OB yesterday who said the Doppler was lousy technology (didnt work) compared to all my prior vaginal ultrasounds... Then after 15 tubes of blood and a finger prick, no juice and cookies to give me... I miss the RE, I was so spoiled there. It was a one stop advanced shop!

  • I hear ya sister!

I miss my RE's office so much!  The staff was so friendly (from the reception to the nurses who take your blood, to the u/s tech, to the drs, and my nurse).  And everything was all in one office!  Regardless of how many people were there I never had a super long wait.  I miss them so much!

I just posted a long complaint about my OB, about the long wait, etc.  https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/62422509.aspx

But it also stinks that I have to go to Quest for all my bloodwork (I can't get it done at the OBs office), for my NT scan I had to go to a hospital they are affiliated with, and from what I understand I have to have all my ultrasounds done at Advanced Radiology, which thankfully is at least in the same building as my OB.

When we "graduated", DH actually asked my RE's nurse, can't we just stay here?  Oh I wish!

At 20-week anatomy scan found IUGR (Intrauterine Growth Restriction), and very low Amniotic Fluid.  Now, I'm High Risk and have weekly ultrasounds to monitor fluid and growth.  If baby runs out of room or is too growth restricted, they will deliver ASAP.  My current goal is to make it to 28 weeks!

  • It's definitely a tough transition to the OB.  They probably won't be able to hear the baby's heartbeat with the doppler until 11-12 weeks.  Sometimes they get lucky and can get it at 10 weeks, but most won't even try until 12 because it's so unlikely before that.  My OB doesn't even do b/w in-house, I have to go to a separate lab for that!

  • I feel the same way!!  After our first OB appointment, my DH looks at me and goes "I want to go back to the RE's".  You wait for so long to graduate from the RE, but you realize how "spoiled" you were once you leave!

  • I am glad you posted this, we had our first OB appointment yesterday and it was so disappointing. I do not know what I expected but I felt like I just wasted a bunch of time and I was frustrated. They only took 6 vials of blood but the lady was testy when I did not want a piece of tap on my skin because I usually clot very fast. Which for the first time I did not and got a snarky remark.

So unhappy about the whole experience. Also, if we were not getting the NT scan we would not even see the baby again until 18-20 weeks plus they did not even ask about DH's family history. I guess I was expecting just a little more when the appointment was suppose to be an hour but we were out in 30 minutes.

  • I agree! The wait time sucks at my OB, the u/s machine can't measure the HR, and I felt rushed. I'm missing the special treatment at the RE's office for sure!

  • I miss the ultrasound being right there. My OB's office is attached to the hospital, and I have to make a seprate appointment there to have an u/s. My OB's nurse is really friendly though, although the desk person is a little pissy. I haven't had b/w done there yet so I don't know how they handle it. I also miss not having to wait. One positive though is that my OB's office is five minutes away while the RE was a half hour.

  • Reilly- are you going to a MFM. My RE refered us to one since it's a twin pg. You get a lot more attention and ultrasounds there.  More frequent monitoring, not as much as RE but tons more US. If your RE and your OB didn't recommend it I'd probably set an initial appointment up with one anyways. They should me monitoring the babies growth a lot more frequently then the regular OB. GL

  • With my first appointment at my OB, I noticed how "old" their u/s machines were. nothing like at the RE's office but a friend had to remind me that the RE needs to see all follicles so their machines are way advanced for good reason.
