C-sections

How long was your incision sore?

It will be 2 weeks tomorrow that I had c-section. I just finished pain meds a couple days ago. My incision is really sore. I was expecting it to hurt a lot less by now. This is my third and I don't remember feeling this pain with my others. But that was years ago, so I don't remember much about it. How long until your incision was not sore, painful or bothering you anymore?

Re: How long was your incision sore?

  • I think mine was pretty sore for about 3 or 4 weeks.  It's hard to remember because at my 2 week check up my dr removed the steri strips, which made the site sore all over again.

  • It's been 3 weeks since c-section.  My incision is not sore, but the ab muscles above the incision are sore because they were either stretched or separated.  This is my third as well, last was 14 years ago, but for some crazy reason I recovered from this one a lot faster, despite my "old age".  I didn't end up taking all of the medication.  It will get better because I think after two weeks was when the pain really became less significant.  Good luck!

  • Mine is still tender, but my incision opened up at 2 weeks and 5 weeks, and is still healing.

  • It felt like forever -- my incision was the sorest thing on me for a long, long time. That's why I never understand why people will say that scheduled c-sections have faster recovery.  I'd still have the same incision and that's what bothered me the most.  It KILLED.

  • Mine still feels uncomfortable if DD decides to stand on it or poke me with her toes when we snuggle. My sister is two years out and says she has the same thing. As far as actual pain goes, I was pretty much able to move without wincing by three weeks and had no real discomfort by my PP check up at 5 weeks.

  • About two months.  And it bled that long.  I didn't have any strips or bandages since the day after the c/s and it pulled open some and kept oozing.  I'm 3 1/2 months now and the incision doesn't hurt at all now, it's pretty much all numb.

  • I'm just over two weeks PP. For the most part, I feel fantastic. My doc pulled the strips off yesterday and it got a little aggitated but nothing horrible. Honestly my stretch marks bother me more than my incision.

ETA: I havent been on the perscription pain meds since three days after giving birth and I stopped taking the motrin before Ana was a week old.

  • I had pain meds (prescription ibuprofen) for 1 week after my c/s.  I still took a combo of tylenol and advil daily for about 1-2 weeks afterwards because it was sore.  Now LO is 10 months old and the incision area still hurts when I touch it, reach up for something up high or if my DH hugs me tightly.  It's getting a lot better and has improved greatly in the last two months.

When I asked my doc how long it would tender for and he said, "I put my hand through a window 40 yrs ago and it's still tender." :S
