This is my second IUI cycle; the first one was in November. In both, the IUI was done ~ 28 hours after I received the trigger shot at a morning monitoring appointment. Both times now, my temperature hasn't risen the day after my IUI/supposed O -- in November, it went sideways the day after, then rose on the second day, and it's looking like it will happen that way this cycle as well. So I wonder if I O something like 48 hours after trigger rather than 36 hours later. (That, or my temps take more than 12 hours to rise after O -- who knows?)
It doesn't help my state of mind that my RE's office uses a shorter time period protocol for IUIs than most places -- 26-28 hours rather than 36 hours. Anyway, this is more a vent than anything; I've already emailed my RE's assistant to see if I can see her before the next one -- if there is a next one -- to discuss timing; she's usually open to my input/suggestions on things, fortunately, and I'll probably see if I can do either a 36-hour timeframe or back to back IUIs. But on the off chance that anyone else here has temped during injects/IUI cycles and has experienced something similar I'd love any insight you have. Or if your RE does monitoring that helps determine precisely when you've O'd I'd be interested in hearing more about that, too (I could suggest something similar to my RE).
I hate feeling pessimistic about the procedure so soon after it happened! Everything seemed to be going so well, but this temp not rising thing definitely seems to be a pattern, not a fluke from last time.
Re: Ugh -- IUI timing concerns
Ugh, I totally understand. My current RE checks for release of the follie following the IUI via ultrasound. I am getting the IUI 36 hours post trigger and then they will check for release at the u/s. If they can't "tell", I will get bloodwork to confirm O (p4 will show it).
I find that most mainstream RE's do not do this and "assume" you released. For the unfortunate few who don't release, they will never know.
As for temping, depending on what drugs you took, it can mess with the temps.

This is the same protocol as I am on. I can tell you that with the Clomid last cycle temping would not have told me a thing. I ran hot the entire cycle. I am doing only injectables this time so I don't know how they affect my temps.
My RE did IUIs 24 hours after trigger and I often wonder if this wasn't partly why I failed. Did I do the IUI too soon?
I think I read that doing the IUI 6 hours on either side of ovulation is ideal, but that the egg is good for about 24 hours as is the sperm. I am not sure about that though.
Thanks for your responses, you guys. I'm pretty sure my RE will let me do the 36-hour protocol next time if I ask (she actually offered to let me do that for my first IUI if my husband was going to be out of town on the wrong day) -- maybe in connection with an u/s so we can see if O has occurred yet.
It's just so frustrating to think I might be wasting a chance because of bad timing. Grrr. I'm just hoping that my crankiness today is due to the fact that I did in fact O yesterday!
A little mittelschmerz would come in handy sometimes. ;-)
I really wish there was a clear sign to indicate you actually ovulated. Like your belly button pops out when the egg breaks free.
OK, I know that is not actually reasonable, but you know what I mean. : )
I love that idea! We need somone to invent that, like the pop up indicator on a turkey.
Love it!!! LOL.
