Hi, I have been lurking mostly, sorry I do not remember your nickname. I have not been comfortable posting in my first trimester. I have not read the posts for the past week so I may have missed something, but I saw last week that you were told you had 50% chance of Down's based on the NT scan. I had the scan on Monday and I'm told there are most definitely chromosomal abnormalities (my appointment with the geneticist is tomorrow). I guess I am just wondering if you have learned more and what testing you are opting for? I'm hoping they give me the option of CVS. I will learn better what the odds are for my baby. I'm 12 weeks 4 days right now (due July 29). Best of luck. Learning this is very heart wrenching.
Re: Paging Bumpie with 50% chance of Down's Syndrome
She updated on the first tri board. Baby has DS and fetal hydrops (100% fatal), so they will be medically terminating.
I'm so sorry that you're having to go through this. I hope you get more reassuring news.
I'm not the person with a 50% chance of Downs, but I was in a similar situation as you during my last pregnancy.
We went to our NT scan and learned that our baby was very sick. They told us right away she wouldn't live due to fetal hydrops and they were pretty confident it was caused by chromosomal abnormalities. Her nuchal measurement was 6.8. We opted to do CVS as soon as they could get us in because we wanted to know what was wrong. If it wasn't chromosomal we wanted to learn everything we could before we lost her to help us understand if it was genetic. It turned out our daughter had Down Syndrome and severe heart defects. We only knew about her condition for a few weeks before her heart stopped, but this gave us time to get the testing done and prepare ourselves.
I'm really glad we did the CVS because we did learn her Down Syndrome was caused by a translocation, which could have been genetic. We were both tested and it appears it was not genetic, which was a huge relief.
I know my situation was a bit different since we immediately knew our baby wouldn't survive, but if you have any questions about my experience or the CVS please feel free to page or PM me. It's a very hard situation to be in and I wish you the best of luck.
