Cluster feeding

My newborn is 2 weeks old and has been cluster feeding from about 9 or 10pm until 1am every night.  I am trying to sleep when he sleeps during the day to get my rest.  But, I am not a night owl and am exhausted when he decides to feed every hour and be fussy during these hours.  Most things I have read about cluster feeding is with breast fed babies...but I am formula feeding him.  Is anyone else having this problem....any suggestions???

Re: Cluster feeding

  • My baby cluster feeds and she is BF. I actually am a night owl, and I am struggling with this hardcore on the nights where it lasts a long time. Last night was 9 hours from 9pm to 6am and no sleep for me.

So, I don't really have any suggestions and am watching to see what others say! And can tell you you are not the only one!

Out of curiosity, does your LO eat and sleep a lot better during the day? She is an absolute angel during the day. Feeds for 30 minutes and sleeps for 3 hours. No fussing. Maybe this is part of them having their days and nights confused. I know they also can cluster feed when they're going through a growth spurt, so this can just be perfectly normal for their age. I hope it ends soon! I'll take feedings every 2-3 hours through the night over this!

  • My baby does this from time to time. It's not a constant though. We also increase his ounces of formula when that happens as well since he tends to stay up if he isn't full.
  • Yes, he does tend to sleep better in the afternoon. Last night he was much better though.  He wanted to eat every 2 hours from 4-8pm...then he made it to 12...4:30...and 9:15am!  Hopefully I can keep this going...he has been eating every 2 hours since he woke up this morning.  I did notice that he ate more last night during feeding too.  I am sure this helped.
