July 2012 Moms

When do you buy a crib?

I know it usually takes a few weeks for them to deliver, but the crib that we want is already waiting at the store for us. It's the last piece in stock and we had it reserved. It's on hold until Monday.

I'm 16 weeks along and we're planning to pay and pick it up this weekend. My ILs think it's way too early since I'm not due until July 2.

When do you usually buy a crib?

Re: When do you buy a crib?

  • I say go for it if it's a good deal! I personally won't purchase anything till I'm in my third trimester but that's just me... The crib I am going to buy is only $79.99 from Ikea, we will go buy it probably in late May or early June.

  • I think it is a little soon..BUT you are almost 20wks, and if you love it, and its a good deal I say get it!
  • We're going to Ikea in a few weeks to buy our 2 cribs and dresser. I have three days off for Mardi Gras, so that's when we're making the trip. I'll be 18 weeks.

  • I have found a cradle, solid wood, no MDF, no pressed wood, and was very happy to find a safe cradle.  I went to the showroom yesterday hoping I could pick it up when they told me b/c of shipping regulations this item is no longer available.  Just in case there are complications you should pick up the crib.  Another reason why it would be best to start early is some items contain VOC's and MDF material which may be harmful.  If you put them together early it will be less dangerous to allow items to release or ?off-gas? VOCs.
  • We purchased ours this weekend. The place we went, orders take 6-14 weeks, depending on brands, and I wanted the crib to arrive by 30 weeks. If we bought from stock, we would probably have waited until after 20 weeks.

  • I don't see anything wrong about picking up your crib when you're 16 weeks.  I mean, really, how long are we supposed to be in fear of miscarrying?  Go get your crib!  :)

  • we bought ours this past weekend. It was on sale so we just went ahead and got it. I think once your dr tells you are healthy and out of your 1st trimester....go for it! who cares what everyone else thinks? You'll feel better that its done and you dont have to worry about it not being there later.

  • We bought our crib & changer/dresser last weekend! I believe that it is totally up to you... you can purchase now or you can wait.  I wouldn't worry about what other people think. It's something you can mark off your list!
  • I bought mine last weekend, if you got a good deal go for it. I personally want to do a little each month to make the nursery of my dreams. lol i dont want to overwhelm myself (body/mind/and budget) 3rd trimester!

It might be the whole idea of not doing everything so soon that you're not just sitting there for 20 weeks with nothing to do.

  • We ordered ours the week after our anatomy scan with the first baby. It took 7 weeks to come in, and during that time we gutted the room, painted and put in new flooring. We had just finished everything by the time the furniture was delivered. Perfect timing.

  • It's not about fear of miscarrying at all, I am a third time mom, for me it's too early, I have plenty of time, there is no rush in my opinion. And sometimes new items come out, I may like another crib more in a couple months.
