I have a feeling a majority of you are anti-Mcdonalds... so no flames. I have to take all 3 kids to get Justin's haircut so bribes are essential
It's been a few months since we've had McDonalds so maybe this is old news. Today they had a big sign, they've reduced the size of the fries and added apples to every happy meal. I'm not pretending it's a wonderfully nutritious meal but it's a step in a good direction for a giant company that serves millions of kiddos, so I was glad to see it. The bad news is; no more piles of unfinished fries I just have to finish for him, lol.
Re: Change at McDonalds
I do lie the fact they are making steps in the healthy direction. As a health coach and healthy eating advocate at work, I know McDonald's is not the only one to blame.
But I'm all for child bribes ... Haha especially with a very stubborn two year old!!
That is a step in the right direction. Didn't they always have the apple option though? Evan has only eaten there once while we were on a road-trip... not because I'm anti-McDonalds, but I just don't like it so we never go. I think he got milk and apples with his meal though.
Ted's is our go to fast food place... Evan is a hot dog freak! But I wish they had a healthy side option, like applesauce or something. Last time we went I asked if there was anything healthier we could sub for the fries (Evan doesn't like french fries anyway) and the kid said "yeah- we have potato or macaroni salad" cuz those mayo laden carbs are so much healthier than the fried version!
Ok, I'm a huge dork and always order Happy Meals for myself. Yes, for me, Rosie's never even had McDonald's (we usually go to Tom Wahl's instead). It's the perfect size for me, and I give Rosie the toy. Can you choose to have the apples, or are they going to come standard? Because I like the size of Happy Meal fries, they're perfect for me!
You get apples and fries, standard.. you can't change the meal around. Comes with both automatically, and the fries are smaller than the normal small bag - they come in a little teeny container.
I like the change, sorta.
I DO admit to taking my daughter there as a treat every so often. The only reason I DON'T fully like it... is because it's a treat for her. She eats apples daily at home (along with other fruits, and lots of veggies) so when we go out, I like to treat her to a meal she wouldn't normally have. For a 5 year old, she eats the new fries in like 2 seconds- last time it was 10 fries. (I counted- lol). So for a treat, it's a teeny amount and she steals some of mine.
Overall, though, I do agree it's a move in the right direction. I just wish we could choose how we want the meal.
So the Happy Meal now comes with a smaller order of fries and an order of apples? Does the apples still come with caramel dipping sauce? I think I read that the caramel sauce is actually supposed to be worse for you than the fries.
When we go to McDonalds, we only order one meal and a side salad then split it between the 3 of us. If DH is with us we order either a bigger salad or extra sandwich. The kids never get thier own meals, so I am not familiar.
Nope, no dipping sauce. It's 3 slices of apple and a 100 calorie sized fries.
I'm so jealous of all you ladies that hate Mcdonalds. I would eat fast food 24/7 and I'm not exaggerating!
it's not so much that I hate it... but my body does. Whenever I eat it I get soooo sick for like 2 days after (McD's or any fastfood- BK, Wendy's, Mighty etc). It tastes good when I'm shoving it in my mouth, but it's not worth the side effects for me!
LMAO... It sounds so much better than my planned stir fry over brown rice!!!

I just got back from the McDonalds near the Boulevard Mall and they just put regular sized fries in the happy meals...no mini fries and apples.
Actually, when I got home and opened Alex's bag there were 2 packages of fries in there. (And it was a good thing, because 2 seconds later Alex dumped his first bag of fries on the floor.)

We don't go often - usually when he's been really good about something, and I need a Mickey D's fix - but I did notice the change when we went a few months back. Ian actually eats the apples now, as opposed to when that was his only choice. Maybe because he's getting his fry fix, he's OK with the apples being there, too.
I was actually happier about the fact that they serve milk as an option for soda or the orange drink. I really didn't want to have a then-2 year old on a orange drink sugar high.
