Crib mobile...who's getting one?

I'm sort of torn at the idea of whether or not I want one. Once the LO starts standing it will have to come down so it makes me wonder if it would be money better spend elsewhere? What do you girls think?

Baby will spend a lot of time lying in their crib before they are able to stand and reach the mobile. I don't think they're a bad idea, but I haven't used one with my LOs before.

DH is freaked out by mobiles after seeing Paranormal Activity 2. We will definitely not being having one. Did I mention that DH is kind of a wimp? We are going to have something that attaches to the side of the crib.

I want one, but have decided against getting one online that "goes" with the decor. I walked by one at Walmart the other day that is close enough, and it was only $20.

I had one with my son but wont be getting one this time. I want him to know the crib is only for sleep not play time.

DS had one of the Tiny Love Symphony in Motion ones. It was the only thing he would pay attention to long enough that would allow me to go to the bathroom by myself and really the only way I could ever put him down. We only used it for 4 months though, but it was well worth it to me.

We'll be making one again - it will hang from the ceiling rather than the crib so baby won't be able to grab it.

i had a musical one and found that it was way too loud for DS. I won't be getting one for this baby, but if i did maybe I would get a non-musical one. I don't feel that babies need to be entertained in a crib, and If baby will go to sleep without engaging with it's environment then I will be much happier.

We plan on getting one! They have the music too so you can use that, as well you can remove the mobile and use the box to entertain.

We did not have one with DD1, and I doubt we'll have one for DD2. I've always tried to make the crib/bedroom a relaxing space for sleep, to establish good sleep habits. Plus, as you said, eventually it will become a hazard and need to be removed anyway.

We do have a white noise machine in DD1's room to block out noise from the rest of the house, and we'll probably have one for DD2 as well.

I made tissue paper pom poms in different sizes and in the colors of DD's room and strung them with fishing line from the ceiling at different legths. I always put a fan on in her room when she sleeps and this blows the pompoms softly and they move. She's now and still loves to watch them a when she falls asleep. I also took 2 old white chineses paper lanterns and covered them with matching tissue paper circles and the create a soft light at night.

Ours came with the crib bedding set. BUT, I used it for the changing table! It gave him something to look at while we changed his diaper.

For his crib we had (& still use) a FP soother (the rainforest one). It's attaches to the rails so he can't pull it off. He's learned how to change the setting to get what he wants & turns it on every night by himself.

I'm getting the FP one that doubles as a ceiling projector. DD's was a waste, it had to be cranked and she could of cared less. I didn't get one for DS, he had a projector but it finally bit it and so did the ocean wonders fish tank I had for inside teh crib so I'm opting for the mobile w/ the projector so it's a 2in1 toy and runs on a battery, not crank operated.

I love the idea of having a mobile from the ceiling. I'm thinking of having a fairly neutral nursery theme wise, and possible having a tree on the wall with some little birdies and I like the idea of something like this... Wish I could make something liek this!

We got one at our shower for DD. She's 17 months now, stands up in her crib all of the time, but leaves her mobile alone. She likes it on when we put her down and she's still pretty awake.. she watches it, listens to the music, and is out by the time it stops.

The mobile we had that came with the bedding set only pissed my kid off more. If you turned it on, she screamed louder. I recommend the SoundSpa instead, aka the 'Baby Crack Machine'

A friend of mine gave me this one and I didn't use it at first because it didn't match her room, but later put it on her crib. After seeing how much she loooved it and watched it for long periods of time, I felt bad for leaving it out. I will definitely use it again this time. I could lay DD in her crib and turn this on while I was putting laundry away, or whatever and she would start fussing when it stopped moving. A ceiling fan is pretty entertaining for a long time, too.

We bought one only because I found one that was just too cute with the rest of the crib bedding/nursery decor - couldn't pass it up! LO will probably hate it and it will be a big waste of money - lol!

They're mostly paper, and hang from the ceiling because they're definitely not to be played with. T was fascinated with it. It will match the colors for kid 2's room, but I'm also considering doing this but with stars.

I love mobiles, I could have a million of them. The two that I have are a Flensted Flowing Rhythm in yellow and this one off etsy. I also have poms from this etsy seller leftover from a shower I held for my SIL that I am also going to hang (high, of course).

DS's crib came with a mobile. It also has a really soft light you can turn on for night time diaper changes or just to check on LO. It worked wonderfully w/DS so I fully intend to use it for this LO too.

I agree with the baby crack machine. We might have to buy a new one for this new baby, we still use the old one for the girls!

And you all have opened my eyes with this whole tissue-paper-puff-ball idea. I may be doing that this time around instead of a mobile!

With DD we opted not to get the one that matched her bedding, but ended up purchasing the Precious Planet one from Fisher-Price that lights up and plays music. It also came with a remote control so we could turn it on/off without going in her room. She loved it and we felt it was well worth the $35 we paid. I will use it again with this LO.

I only spent about $24 on mine. Clearance from PBK. Even if it only lasts a short time, no big deal. Or look on pinterest there are some really great DIY ideas!!
