Breastfeeding

Can 2 oz of formula cause this much damage?

So, DS got 2 oz of formula on Sunday night -- I had to go out, and DH realized too late that he wasn't supposed to microwave my frozen breastmilk. Oops. So for his last feeding before bed, DS got half formula and half fresh BM that I had pumped a few hours earlier. He slept well that night, but the next morning, he was a wreck: incredibly gassy, not pooping as usual, and just overall uncomfortable.

Well, it's two days later and it seems like he still hasn't completely recovered from this. He's been having long periods of gassiness, and his usual 2 - 3 poops a day have been reduced to one, which takes its time in getting there. He's usually pooped at least once by now, but instead he's alternately crying and sleeping while DH bounces him.

Also, his nighttime sleep has been a wreck -- DS used to get a good 6 - 7 hour stretch at the beginning of the night and only wake up once or twice total. Now he's been waking up every 1.5 - 2 hours. At least he has been napping well during the day, but I'm afraid it's more a result of overtiredness than anything else.

My initial thought was the formula caused this. It was the only part of his routine that's been different these last few days. But he's had formula before (pedi asked us to supplement back before he was a month old, and then MIL gave him formula one night when she was babysitting, insisting that it would "help him sleep better"), and while the second instance made him gassy, it was nothing like this. We know his has reflux, so he's been taking meds for that. But I'm starting to get paranoid that maybe there's something in my breastmilk that's messing up his system like this. I hope not.

We've tried gas drops, massaging his tummy, bicycling his legs, etc., but nothing has gotten him back to normal. Help! Was it really the formula that messed him up like this? How can I get my happy baby back?

The night waking thing sounds normal for the age too unfortunately.  My LO slept great from birth to 3mths and then did the every 2 hours from 4-6mths.  Sometimes it just happens.

Mine, too; except DS woke every hour to nurse. Just when you get used to something, they switch it up on you!
