I'd like to get an audiobook to listen to on my daily walks and I'm looking for suggestions! Have you read anything that you think is worth the read?
I know I'll eventually want to read "What to expect..." but I thought I'd get some recommendations too!
Re: TTGP/Pregnancy Book Suggestions
What to expect was awful. Boring, dull, almost fear inducing. IMHO skip it
The Girlfriends Guide was a fun easy read. The Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy was nicer than What to Expect. Still dull though. I've heard Belly Laughs by Jenny McCarthy was a good read but keep in mind it's Jenny McCarthy, not a dr.
Don't see the audiobook BUT did find an hour long free podcast on iTunes. Might have to check that out...
TCOYF is amazing, as PP said. I don't know if it's in audio form either.
I read Belly Laughs, it was a really quick read and midly funny. It's not a "this is what to expect when pregnant" kind of book, but it has some pregnancy humor.
I do really want to read Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy, it looks good.
Me: 30, DH: 33 Married 8/3/08
BFP 7/16/2012 (8th cycle), EDD 3/27/2012, Delivered 3/24/2013 - IT'S A BOY!
I personally didn't really like, "What to Expect...." Alot of the information is common sense (which I know some people lack lol) and honestly, after I read it, I had more questions than I had before. There SOOOO much that does/could go on during pregnancy that they DON'T talk about...IDK, it's just not one that I would suggest....
I also liked, "Belly Laughs" but like PP said, it's by an actress, not a doctor. I just thought it was fun to listen to another womans experience (and I laughed quite a bit)....
I've read What to Expect Before your Expecting and it was...ehh... If you've read TCOYF you can skip it. Nothing new, nothing interesting, and yes, kind of fear inducing.
I'm working my way through Dr. Sear's The Baby Book. I find it very interesting but I can't just sit down and read all the way through it because it's so big. With that said, I'm really enjoying it and I'm glad I have it as a resource.
I recently finished The Completely Organic Pregnancy. It's was okay. Had some valuable information, but it's written more with a "OMG everything can kill you" perspective rather than a conservationist perspective, which doesn't exactly jive w/ me. Read it with a grain of salt.
I'm almost finished with Our Babies Our Selves by Meredith Smalls. I am really enjoying it. It's an anthropological and biological look at parenting in the US and other cultures. I'm finding it absolutely fascinating. I would highly recommend it.
Next on my list are: The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth and Birthing from Within
Babycatcher
Ina mae gaskins guide to childbirth
Born in the usa by marsden wagner?
And ive also heard to stay away from what to expect. I got the mayo clinic one instead
