fyi--flying and breastmilk

was gonna post this in el twirpo's post but thought others may wanna know. there are new rules regarding milk testing. i just flew out of salt lake yesterday. and tsa tested every. single. bag. i had 9 and 2 sippy cups. wow. (i'm a flight attendant, so i feel like i should know this stuff is gonna happen!) i asked the tsa guy and he said it was new and not in all airports because some have new machines.

it took a little time, so just a headsup!

    what exactly is involved with testing the milk? just wondering if that accidentally contaminates it with so much exposure to air after being sealed and with whatever instruments they're using.

    I had this happen in the Denver airport last April.  I didn't even have breastmilk but water in a sippy and they tested it.  I think they took the lid off and waived a litmus paper over it or something.  They don't put their test into your liquids but rather hover it over your stuff so it should not contaminate your milk, etc from what I understand.

    this is what they did. the problem for some moms will be this--you don't have time to wash your hands and you have just taken off your shoes, touched a thousand gross things on your way thru security....i had a little bit of a hard time stomaching that part and i am not a super germaphobe
