Hey ladies! I've been having some anxiety about going back to work and pumping. I am afraid I will not be able to pump enough to feed DD. I know stress and anxiety is not good for milk production, so I just need a little reassurance that everything will be OK.
I am a teacher and I thought I had my pumping schedule all set up, however I went in to my classroom today to prep for my return to school and found out my schedule is completely different from when I left! I was planning to pump these times:
5:00 am while getting ready (DD eats around 3 am and goes back to sleep)
8:15 on my prep period
11:00 am lunch
2:00 end of school
I thought this was perfect because it is 3 hours apart for each session, which is when DD eats now.
Now I don't have a prep period until after 12 noon everyday. It cannot be changed - the schedule is set in stone. So I have almost 4 hours of classes in a row with no time to pump. ![]()
Now my plan is:
5:00 am
6:50 am before school starts
10:40 am lunch (I begged them to let me have the early lunch)
Anywhere from 12 noon to 2:00 - I can pump a couple of times since in here since I will have my prep and I can pump afterschool.
Does this sound ok? I also pump at 9:45 at night after DD goes to bed and before I go to bed.
TIA! Sorry if this is a little crazy - I just want to be able to pump enough to feed DD.
Re: Teacher & schedule change - need some reassurance/support. (long)
The only thing I wonder is whether you'll get very much at 6:50 since you just pumped less than 2 hours before. I know it would suck, but could you get up at 4:30 to pump instead of 5? This way there would be a bit more space between the first two sessions? I know it sucks. I can't believe they changed your schedule without telling you. I hate for you that it's "set in stone."
The good news is that, if you get a bit more than DD is eating at each (or really any) pumping session, you might not need them all to make up what she eats the next day, if that makes any sense at all. When DD sleeps through the night, I get enough at my first pumping session of the day that if I had to skip a session at work, I probably would still have enough for the next day's bottles. Not sure if I'll always be that lucky, and I (fortunately) haven't had to test that theory yet, but that's where I'm at right now.
GL with the new schedule!

Becoming a better role model for my daughter, one day at a time
I pumped at 6:30 before I left, 10:00 plan time and 12:00 lunch and before bed and it worked out fine for over a year! Good luck!!
My LO never took more than 4 oz per bottle and I only left 2 bottles beginning at 5 months (I may have left three bottles when he was tiny..) - nursed right before and after work.
