Maybe TMI...
Last night, I woke up to go to the bathroom. My shorts were wet but not soaked (the bed didn't get wet) and it didn't seem like discharge. I peed and went to get a drink. I felt more liquid come out so I went back to the bathroom. I couldn't really tell how much more had come out. So, I changed shorts and went back to bed since I didn't feel crampy or anything and I don't know if I was just leaking urine. (It didn't smell like anything.) When I got up this morning, my shorts were a little wet but not as much as before. Since then, I've put on a panty liner and have only noticed a tad of regular discharge. I have an appt. at 3. I'm thinking that I'll just see if it happens again, if so I'll call my midwife. If not, I'll just tell them at my appt.
What do you guys think? My co-workers seem more concerned about it than I feel. I'm thinking that if it were my water I would feel something. Do I need to go ahead and call or am I good to wait and see if it happens again?
Re: Opinions?
I've known several women whose water has "leaked" or trickled out slowly rather than gushing. The only reason it mattered for one is because she was Strep B positive and should have gone straight to the hospital for . . . whatever it is they give women who are Strep B positive.
If that's not the case, all things considered, I think you're fine waiting until your appt at 3.
I'm thinking your water has sprung a leak. I would call the doc and they will probably want you to come in to check to make sure your water hasn't started leaking. With DD my water didn't break like a big "swoosh." I got up to pee and felt more pee when I went to bed. I called the doc and had me go in. They tested me and it was my water sac leaking. Checked me in right then.
This could be it, so good luck!
Since you're not having contractions and want a low-intervention birth (you're at a birthing center, right?), I'd wait til my appt at 3 unless you get some other obvious sign--regular contractions, lots of leaking, etc.
Exciting!
I'd bet money that you're water has broken via an outer tear (there are a couple of membranes, and if just one tears the water trickles rather than gushes). It's happened to a few of my friends.
The reason I wouldn't wait until 3 is that you may only have 24 hours from the time it broke until the time your mid-wife and/or OB recommends induction. That might influence your decisions, like if you want try more aggressive alternative methods to induce labor today.
In any case, yay, 'cuz you're about to have a baby!!!
This is true with most OBs. I'd hope that your MWs wouldn't put you on the clock for no good reason!!
This. My water leaked (I was 38w on the nose, too) and didn't gush, but I was awake when it happened and definitely felt/heard 2 distinct pops. If it were me, I would go ahead and call. I wanted low intervention but I was paranoid and excited when it happened so I didn't wait. How exciting!!!
Sounds like you're having a baby! I would be pretty surprised if this didn't turn out to be your water leaking.
I would call:
1. Give the hosptial/birthing center that they need to make room for a baby coming soon
2. In case there are any medical reasons that you need to start doing whatever you do to get things moving. Once your water is broken, you have a higher chance of infection, and therefore most people want to see some "action" -if not a baby- within 24 hours.
3. SO YOU KNOW TO START LOADING THE CAR! Haha.
This is so exciting
I think you're having that Mommy-intuition calmness, and that in itself is a sign you're about to have a baby. I was nervous every.single.day before I went into labor. Then when my water broke, I was completely and utterly calm and collected.
