I was at BRU a few weeks ago, and just walked through the carseat section, and saw this new seat from Graco (at least I hadn't seen it before). It's 5-100 lbs, all in one (RF, FF, Booster/Belt Placing), and has a base. We currently have C in the RF Graco 35, but he will grow out of it heightwise before he reaches 35 lbs. We share daycare dropoff/pickup responsibilities, so he rides equal amounts in both cars, and we have a base in each car.
How cumbersome would it be to get this type of all-on-one seat and two bases, and continue to swap it out, vs. getting a seat for each car? Getting this one seat with two bases would be cheaper than getting two seats, so I'm grappling with that as well.
Re: Another carseat question
I'd want to know what the height limit is on RF in it, if you're planning to RF until 2 years (or longer). But otherwise, it seems like a good concept.
Per the TRU website - Product Weight:42.9 pounds
Carrying a 40 pound car seat plus a 30 pound toddler in and out of daycare would break me, even assuming you have one in each hand. Maybe if you have an obedient kid who is willing to walk in/out from a young age (mine wants to be carried, at least in part because of the 50+ steps to DCP's house) so you can struggle with the heavy/awkward car seat? But what if you're sick and don't have the energy for all that carrying? Or if you sprain an ankle and it's one more awkward thing to lug while you're barely keeping up with your LO?
Plus its going to be $300 with the second base. You could get two Britax Roundabouts on clearance (at TRU's website) for maybe $20 more. Totally worth it. Have you looked on albeebaby.com for carseats? They're pretty much the cheapest place I've seen.
Personally, I would get two of these seats (which would be approximately the same cost as the new Graco Larkin), and not deal with the hassle of having bases. The My Ride 65 is RF to 40lbs and FF to 60lbs... plus, it gets good reviews. If it was on the market when we bought our seat, we would have seriously considered it.
Just for comparison sake, J is turning 3 next week and hasn't hit 35 lbs yet. She's somewhere around 50th percentile for height and 65th'ish for weight (or something like that...).
Sure, it doesn't go up to 100lbs, but you will be in it for quite a while waiting to get to 60.
IMO, this would be a HUGE pain in the you know what. To me, it's hard enough getting a toddler to walk in and out of the daycare while carrying their bag and I would not want to add on trying to carry a huge car seat in the other hand.
I would opt for two lower-priced car seats. FWIW, this is what I'm thinking of getting as my next car seat.

Also, I cannot imagine keeping a kid in a car seat like that until 100 lbs. My friend's 12 year old son only weighs 80 lbs. So, while it's nice that they make car seats that go up to such a high weight, I'm not sure if it's going to be necessary for most kids.
One advantage of the My Ride 65 (that I posted above) over the Nautilus is the higher RF weight limit (unless they recently upped the RF limit for the Nautilus. Only important if you're planning on doing extended RF.
Do you happen to know the RF limit on the Nautilus? I can't find any info online so I'm thinking that maybe it's not RFing at all. Hmmm...
According to this blog, no... only FF.
Okay, cool and thanks for the link. Now I need to re-think if and when to get this car seat.
