Infertility

Is this all happening too fast?

DH and I have been ttc 2.5 years and we are finally moving on to IUI with injectables. We just had our consult last week with our new RE, and from what I understand, I am able to get started with everything on my very next cycle, if I'd like. Well, my cycle will be starting right around 1/27, which is so soon!

Don't get me wrong, I don't feel any emotional hesitation at all-- H and I are very ready to do this. But a few different friends have been telling me that I should have been doing acupuncture to get my body "ready". I've never bothered with acu. Even though I hear absolutely nothing but good things, I still don't know if I really believe in it. But now I'm second guessing everything, because maybe I should go to acupuncture sessions for the whole month of Feb and then do IUI in March. But then again, I'm like "why wait?", because I really want to get started in Feb. Is it ridiculous to think about this? Or do I need to take more time before doing my first IUI to get myself as "ready" as possible?

Does anyone have any thoughts, or did you struggle with anything like this? Sorry if this is really dumb :(

Re: Is this all happening too fast?

  • Sorry you're having a tought time!  My personal opinion is that you should get started.  There are a million things you could do to "get your body ready" but as long as you're in decent health now, I don't think you will see any significant benefits by postponing for one month.  Many people use accupuncture, modified diets, supplements, meditations, etc, but the jury's still out on what the impact of these really is on general fertility.  Is the relaxation you get from accupuncture going to compensate for the anxiety of waiting one more month?

FWIW, When I had my meeting with my RE to go over all the test results and make a treatment plan, she said, what CD are you?  When I told her CD10 she asked if I wanted to do an IUI that month?  I went in for monitoring the next morning and had my first IUI the day after that.  It was unmedicated and it worked!  So, I don't think you're jumping into anything too fast!  It's a very exciting time!

    Good Luck!

  • I know exactly how you feel! My husband and I are on cd4 of injectables the first time was the hardest he poked me cause I couldn't do it. But don't wait we been waiting for so long :) Hopefully nothing but baby dust for you! I go in tomorrow for another ultrasound to see where Im at.
  • It's a weird feeling - when we made the decision to do IVF it felt like it was so far out.  Then the time came and it went by so quickly.  My point, it starts feeling like everything is moving really fast ... especially after all the waiting that has gone on before.  Only you can decide what's best for you, but honestly, I'd just get started :)

This! I've been on hold since my last IUI in July and now that my IVF is right around the corner, I can't believe how fast everything is moving. GL!

  • Thanks so much everyone!
  • If not having done accpuncture is your concern you can still start it and see benefits possibility this cycle.

I wouldn't postpone it-there is always some reason to postpose.  I've been sick the last two weeks and part of me wonders if we shouldn't wait until next month to start IVF.... but I know we need to just take the leap and do it!

  • I know how you feel.  I think for me, after trying for so long and getting BFN after BFN it was a little crazy and scary to think that next month could be it!  After all the waiting its weird to jump right in.  My advice would be to go ahead.  If acupuncture is something you're interested in, you can certainly do that along with the IUI cycle.  I don't think you need to be doing it for months in preparation in order for it to be effective.  Good luck!
