DH thinks I am crazy for wanting to spend $$ on a new crib mattress for Renee. He asked me why we are still having Gracie sleep in it if I really believed it was full of toxic gasses and the question really kind of stumped me. I mean, really, what makes the mattress dangerous for a new child if it is not dangerous for the original sleeper? The whole subject is just another example on how I am educated on things just enough to make myself look really dumb when I am challenged. LOL [Poll]
Re: Poll: Did you get a new crib mattress for #2?
I wouldn't buy a used mattress but I would reuse one that only my older child had used. We will get new mattresses for the babies, but only because DS won't be out of his crib.
I voted to reuse Gracie's mattress for the baby.
We got a new mattress for DS because DD is still using her mattress. She's still in a crib (where we plan on keeping her for-EV-ER).
The only thing I can think of for not reusing is if the years of use by child #1 left the mattress softer than it was originally and babies are supposed to sleep on super firm mattresses.
I bought a new mattress for #2 and #3. I bought a new one for #2 because #1 was still in the crib when she was born. Then, with my third, I was more aware of all the yucky chemicals in mattresses so I opted to get rid of #1 old mattress and get a new, less toxic mattress for #3.
I am in the train of thought that you can't do better until you know better and I had no idea about all this stuff when #1 was born.

This statement cracked me up because it's how I feel most of the time when challenged by DH. Ha!
I would reuse #1's mattress if it was still in good condition.
