Re: What age can they hold their own bottle?

  • DS started doing it about a month ago.  He would hold the bottle before, but couldn't actually hold the bottle up to feed himself.

  • My DD started holding her's at 8 months, but from what I have heard she is not the norm. Some babies hold them really early, but some babies don't until 10+ or they may even refuse to.

  • My niece refuses and she is one year.  DS tried, but I think he couldn't do it because he can't see it same with not wanting to eat finger food.  We just found out he is far sighted.

  • DD didn't until about 10-11 months.  DS is almost 5 months and he likes to grab on his bottle but he can't "hold" it yet.
  • DS started doing it at 10 months.  He could do it before then but he is a lazy baby.

  • DS started holding his bottle at 5 months, but only could do it if he was laying down.  Now he can pretty much hold it as long as he's reclined, he can even do one handed.

  • DS started at 6m and DD 10m, so I think it just depends on the baby.

  • Raegan started doing this very early.  When she was about 2 weeks old she started grasping for the bottle and eventually started smacking at the bottle.  So we would hold the bottle so that she could hold our pinky with one hand and our thumb with the other.  She improved her grasp this way.  To answer your question, she has been holding her own bottle since about 5 mths old but we just started letting her. She is already independent in so many ways I didn't want to give up that nurturing action.  I will still hold it at times depending on what kind of schedule I'm on but will also let her hold the bottle if she's really insistent.
  • DS held his at 7 months. One day out of the blue, I laid him in our bed for his evening bottle and he grabbed the bottle out of my hands and started drinking away. Shocked the heck out of me! Apparantly they were working on it at daycare -LOL!
  • ds was holding his at about 3 months but only while lying down or reclined. And if it slipped he wasn't good at getting it back. By about 5-6 months he became a pro.
