Trying to Get Pregnant

Terrified about pregnancy

My husband and I are just starting to talk about our plans for the future- ie. babies and owning our own home. While we still have plenty of time to worry about all this, I can't help but shake the feeling that I am terrified about being pregnant and giving birth.

Does anyone else feel this way? The morning sickness, the stretching, the horrifying idea of it all and all that can go work. It freaks me out and Im not even pregnant!

Any advice/stories?

  • It freaks my out too, but I know it will all be worth it in the end when I'm holding my beautiful baby.

  • I want to do a completely natural childbirth when my day finally comes, which everyone thinks I am insane for because I am such a friggin' baby when it comes to pain. The idea of tearing, pain, and pushing a giant head out of my who-ha is very scary and even causes me to have panic attacks, but if I have to go through that all to get a baby then I will do whatever the heck it takes.
  • I think it's normal to feel a little terrified. After all, a lot can go wrong with pregnancy. But if you are taking care of yourself prior to conception, taking vitamins, etc...the rest is out of your control. Lately I've been thinking, oh well, it's scary but exciting, just take the plunge.

  • I think it's ok to be scared...it IS scary! It's all new and you don't know what to expect out of yourself, DH or family. But once you're there in the moment you will get through it! Just like the first day of class, it's scary but exciting at the same time!

  • You have to want something more than you fear it.
  • FWIW...

    •  I was SO sick during my pregnancy with Brooke - up until 7 months
    • I worked 50+ hours and feet that were swollen up to my knees
    • I had to be induced at 41 weeks due to having a stubborn baby...
    • Had terrible back labor
    • Got an unusually high fever 2 days PP

...And I am ready to do it again... 8 months later.  It is SO worth it.

I should also add that my baby had a GIANT head and I was thisclose to having a 3rd degree tear.  If you can believe it, sex is even better than before.  Don't be scared!

  • It's scary but you have to believe the "risk" is worth the reward and I so do...

I feel this way sometimes, but overall- Im just terrified. Im not one to handle pain and Im very conservative about my body so the idea of people seeing me down there is just completely un-appealing. I've seen videos and even live births. I really want a baby, I just don't know how I feel about all this. There is soo much pressure on women!

  • Pregnancy doesn't scare me, but giving birth does. I make myself feel better by telling myself that 1) It will all be worth it once I'm holding my baby and 2) They'll give me drugs for labor. :P
