Hi! I'm 4 weeks today. I had my first positive urine test Thurs, blood test Friday: HCG was 29. Low but definitely positive. Went back today (Sunday) and it was only 39. That's only about a 40% raise. I was told they look for the number at least doubling- but a minimal 50% raise. The nurse said that my measurement is typically indicative of a problem/potential miscarriage (followed with "but stay positive"- grrrrrrrrr)
My hubs and I have been trying for our first for 10 months. I was SOOO ridiculously happy but now I feel pretty hopeless.
Did anyone else have any experience with this? What was your outcome (good and bad)? I've seen some message boards that suggest this can just happen sometimes but still result in a normal pregnancy. I'm praying (alot) but there doesn't seem to be anything else I can do. I'm not very good at "staying positive".
Side note: I've had a few progesterone tests (in past months) and they have generally been low. I'm going back for another test on Tues and have asked them to check progesterone too. I'm going out on a limb and hoping that maybe that test will highlight I have low progesterone and I can get some supplementation. Praying that will help but we'll see!
Thanks for your support in advance!
Re: HCG only raised 10 points. Anyone have a similar experience?
I had a positive HPT and then three beta HCG tests. From the first to to second number it did not double (from 30 something to 50 something). The third number was lower. Unfortunately I started to have a miscarriage shortly after the last blood draw.
Usually beta HCGs that do not rise as expected indicate a non-viable pregnancy. For my first pregnancy I did not have my progesterone levels tested. However, I'm pregnant again and this time around I'm on progesterone supplements and my betas rose as expected.
Im sorry if this discourages you, I certainly hope that you can beat the odds and have a successful pregnancy.
I hope it sticks for you too!
My cousin with her first had HCG that would rise to normal pg levels and fall just below normal they said falling was indicative of a miscarriage it would rise and fall through her entire first trimester she had some complications but her son is starting school Tuesday and was the first of her 2 and one in the oven beautiful healthy children it isn't the usual but maybe yours isn't either I hope you get good news. God Bless and Best Wishes!
If you have low progesterone levels they may cause the HCG to rise slower than normal. It is definitely worth checking out. I'm sorry you are going through this, I know how heartbreaking it can be to get bad bw results. Good luck!
