CDing for twins (especially pregnant MoM's!)

I CD my twins and just wrote a really comprehensive blog post about it. I just wanted to share it with you all because I was SO confused when I was pregnant. I knew I wanted to CD, but I didn't have any idea of the logistics of it. So I have been wanting to write this post for a while, and hope that it will help some of you pregnant MoM's! https://taleoftwobabies.blogspot.com/2012/01/cloth-diapering-101-for-twins.html

  • Thanks so much!!  This is awesome.

So the rinse cycle gets rid of all the "gunk?"  Are you bf'ing?  Do you have to use the toilet sprayer at all?  Since you still do it, I'm assuming there have been no issues w/ running the baby clothes through w/ the diapers after the rinse -- and I think this is awesome!

We really want to CD but we won't have our own washer anymore, so I'm wondering what the best way to do it is (do a quick handwash, toilet sprayer, etc).  I'm hoping to bf so I know the poop is different.

Yup! The rinse cycle gets all the poop out. I EP, so they get all BM. I have had to supplement an oz. or two of formula every now and again, but there is really no change in there poo when I do, probably because they get so little formula if at all. However, we have been doing solids for about a month now and THAT has changed their poo a lot! I have gone back and forth on whether or not to get a diaper sprayer. I don't have one currently. A lot of poo's are plopable, so I just just plop it in the toilet. it's that peanut butter poo that is gross and that's when you'd use a sprayer. But honestly I just scrape off what I can and throw it in the wet bag. So far so good. the rinse cycle gets rid of it all and then the wash in hot really gets it clean.

And nope, no issues with running baby clothes, etc. through with the diapers! I have been doing it since day one!

EBF or EP'ed poop is really easy! You don't have to rinse it off the diaper or anything - just throw it in your wet bag and the rinse cycle on the washer will take care of it. It's when you get into solids that poop gets gross!

And I'm SO glad I could help! I'm really glad I sat down and did the post, I was so hopeful that someone would get something out of it!

  • Thank you!  That's amazing.  We want to use the biodegradable liners when they are on solids since you can flush those, and then the poo goes there -- we may do that if the washer doesn't have a separate rinse cycle (I have to investigate).

But it's seriously SO good to know you can run them through w the baby clothes after they've been rinsed.

  • Love your pictures of your darling girls with the diapers all around!

We CD as well, have from day one, and also was so confused about all the choices. When they first came home we used preemie prefolds with prorap covers until the sized BG, AIO and pockets fit. Today we do a combo, prefolds/covers on weekends when DH/I am home and during week the nanny uses AIO's and pockets. At night we do fitteds with wool covers, Kawaii Minky and Overnight diapers. I also have a few gdiapers for travel.

We now FF and as you mentioned both BM and FF poo's wash right out, but might look into getting a diaper sprayer when we start solids.

Biggest tip I can give anyone who wants to CD is experiment with different kinds and brands of CD as fit is different for every baby. Also many CD sites (Cotton Babies, Jillians Drawers, Green Mountain) have great sales on seconds and gently used diapers. Most of my stash has been build up on these and that saves even more $!

  • Awesome post, thank you so much!  We are going to use the Bum Genius All in Ones when the babies are big enough to fit in them.  I am surprised by the number of people who think we are nuts to CD twins, it's like have you seen the price of diapers lately???  It's nuts not to!  Thanks again for posting this and your girlies are adorable! :)

  • Great blog! FYI I've CD'd for 3 1/2 years now and I've never noticed an issue w/ the poo not coming out in the rinse cycle as long as solids are dumped. I will say that I am seriously wishing for a diaper sprayer and will be getting one soon because it would make life SO much easier!
  • Peeking in with a diaper sprayer endorsement... Big Smile

I was leaning pretty strongly against a sprayer for quite a while after we started solids. I just couldn't figure out one could use one without spraying poop all over the bathroom in the process. I decided to give it a try after finding one on sale and I was instantly hooked! There is a bit of a learning curve and yes, there have been a couple of... ahem, incidents... but overall, it has been a HUGE help and I can't imagine CDing without one now.
