Period Tracker

Does anyone use the Period Tracker for the iPhone/Android phone? After our taxes come back we are paying off our furniture then going to get a second car and athose are the two things left to do before we start trying so I'm wondering how accurate this thing is. My SIL uses hers to not get pregnant lol and we want to use ours to get pregnant.

Re: Period Tracker

  • Does it track your basal body temperature and fertility signs (cervical mucus etc) or does it just use the days you get your period to track your cycle?  If it's the former, it may be useful.  If it's the latter, it's not useful at all for TTC.  Most of those trackers assume all women ovulate on day 14 of their cycle (or halfway through their cycle), but that's not accurate.  For instance, I usually O around day 19 of a 31-33 day cycle, but I have O'd anywhere from CD 17 to 24.  The only way to be sure of when you are ovulating (or if you are ovulating) without medical assistance is to chart your temperature.  I'd recommend getting a Fertility Friend account, taking the tutorials, and charting a few cycles before you start TTC.  The basic account is free and I think there's a mobile app.

  • I use the period tracker (iPeriod) on my iPod. It can track some symptoms but it doesn't chart them like pp said.
Mom to a wonderful kiddo. Wishing/Hoping for a second LO.
  • I use My Days (Android), but not for fertility purposes - just so I have a record. It adjusts your expected cycle based on input, so it gets more accurate every month. Jen used Fertility Friend when we were TTC and it was much more involved - she liked it.

  • I paid the $1.99 and updated to the full Period Tracker app. That one lets you chart your BBT, symptoms, intimacy patterns (so when you get preg you can figure out which day it occurred!) etc. It's the ONLY app I have ever paid for and it was well worth it!

  • I have it just for my own information and I don't get surprised. And it does tell me when it *thinks* I am ovulating, but based on years of tracking, I can tell it isn't correct. If you go with temps/CM/other ovulation signs, I do think it is helpful. And Fertility Friend also has an app that I know people have used.

  • So I looked at it last night and it has a place for temperatures and CM and all sorts of other things so what do ya think?

Amd it shows that she has a 28 day cycle and ovulated on the 14-15th day of her cycle.

  • I use the Period Tracker for Android just for my information. It will eventually update your cycle and predicted ovulation days based on your cycle length once you have entered a few cycles. I tend to have shorter cycles, so I know that it's adjusting based on the dates I've entered as to when it predicts my next period will be.

As others have said though, ovulation may not fall when PT says it will since everyone's body is different and I'd be tempted to use some of the other fertility items suggested. You can use PT to track those other symptoms and have it all captured in one place, it just may not do *everything* you need it to eventually do.:)

This.  If you're using an RE to conceive and he/she uses monitoring/triggering to know when you're ovulating, it might not matter how good your tracking software is (and you might not have to chart at all).  If you are doing at-home insems or unmonitored/unmedicated IUIs, you will have a lot riding on your ability to predict the day you're going to ovulate.  Personally, I would go with something that is specifically designed for that purpose, like Fertility Friend or the Taking Care of Your Fertility software/website.

  • I use WomanLog Pro for Android (I think I paid a dollar). I love it. I can track when my period starts/ends, BMT, Cervical Mucus, my mood, my weight, and add any little notes that I would like to have.
  • Well J hurts when she's ovulating and usually on the day she's hurting it's the day PT says she's Ovulating. We plan on also using OPKs. We plan on doing three unmediated cycles first so I'm trying to get everything in a row.

Alysia- that's what hers tracks as well. She even adds when we have sex...not that that matters for us lol she just does it so she can complain when we don't have sex for a week or two :) lol
