Explain the bf'ing pics on FB to me.

I am not trying to create drama, I'm really not.  I just don't get it.  It's annoying to be censored, I do get that.  But, I don't see the point of posting pictures of a mom breastfeeding on fb to begin with.  Is the theory that the more people see it the more it will become mainstream and not be such a touchy subject?  I guess I can understand that... but, still.  What's the point?  If you are a bf'ing mother who NIPs I assume you are friends with people who don't care or support you.  If not, I would think the topic might come up in a situation where you are out with whatever friend and you NIP and they confront you or mention that it makes them uncomfortable.  In any event, isn't NIP the way to desensitize people to the issue rather than posting pics on FB for people to study and look at whenever they want?

Re: Explain the bf'ing pics on FB to me.

  • I haven't seen any of these so I don't know what kind of pics they are or if there's an article with it, etc.  However, I wonder if it isn't just to start FB drama.  I know that I have a few FB friends who love to stir up drama in any way they can.  If it means posting a pic along with a caption that says repost or you hate babies/Jesus/life/whatever they will.

That's totally just a guess though since I haven't seen what you're talking about.

  • as far as I understand, they are just shots of moms bf'ing their own kids. like any other family photo and they are getting deleted for being obscene. have been for years. Yet, it's ok to see racy hot chick photos and man boobs etc.

it's people being upset that their photos were being taken down when there is nothing sexy or obscene in them.

sure there are always people that want to stir stuff up, but from the blogs/peeps i've seen, it's just people not understanding the double standard.

  • I think I have one or two? And really, there's no "reason" to it other than I like the pictures. A few of my favorite pictures just happen to be nursing pictures. They are some of my favorite memories, and some of the few times my child is sitting still and looking sweet Wink

I also NIP, though I try to keep as much boob and nipple hidden as I can, just cause BFing has not been nice to my tatas.

If someone doesn't like it, sorry. I'm not TRYING to throw it in your face, it's just a part of my life.

  • Fb has a long history of deleting nursing photos that don't even show much of anything. They like deleting tasteful birth photography as well. I'm not talking nudity. Why they take that stance is beyond me. I have a photographer that I mentor that was banned from fb for posting a birth photo with zero nudity. She fought it and eventually won, but fb was a total pita over it. So yeah, I think a lot of people post nursing photos as a way to take a stance and buck the system.
  • I know for sure I have one nursing photo on FB, maybe more. I recall this particular one because it was flagged and removed. I posted it because it was what was going on that particular night- I was at a formal wedding 9 (by myself) when DH called and said DD had to go to the ER. They swung by on the way and picked me up ad it just so happened tat I was nursing her in the ER in a formal dress. Totally FB worthy as a snapshot of our evening, IMO. FTR, below is the photo which is hardly obscene. There are pics of me on FB showing far more skin in a swimsuit.

  • What SLB said.

I put this one up a couple of months ago once because it was awesome! I mean, trying to grocery shop with a baby is tough, but trying to grocery shop in Costco with a cartload of perishables and a hungry baby is super tough. So this picture was my way of sharing a poignant moment many of my mom friends would understand and appreciate.

This cracked me up! Something like this would so happen to me!

  • both those pictures cracked me up and are totally FB worthy. what's the point of FB if you can't post a situational picture and share in your day's adventures?
  • I had no idea that this was an issue.  (FB deleting these types of pics.)  I would be pissed if they deleted any of my pics but especially if they claim them to be obscene or inappropriate and they aren't.

  • What I didn't get a pic of was what happened right after this pic was taken- DD threw up everything she had just sucked down, plus the bottle of abx she drank that landed her in the ER in the first place. All over the front of my beautiful purple satin dress, lol. It was a good thing though, and it was fun explaining it to the cleaners the following week. ;-)
