So I had my first appt yesterday at 4 weeks, 3 days. The doctor did an ultrasound which didn't really show much since it's so early. He did point out what appeared to be the thickening of the lining and beginnings of the sack. He said that was where he expected the pregnancy to continue.
He called later in the afternoon and told me my hormone levels were at 56 and progesterone was 15. He seemed prefectly satisfied with that and said he'd see me in two weeks for my next ultrasound. My next appt is scheduled for the 2nd which will put me at 7 weeks exactly.
Anyway, of course I had to google beta levels and 56 seems awfully low for where I'm at. I can't help but freak myself out a little bit... but I guess he wasn't worried about anything. Sheesh- I need to not look anything up anymore!
He's my fairytale, a dream when I'm not sleeping.

Re: 1st appt and google is the enemy!
Google is not your friend!!
Sometimes I think reading some of the things posted on here freak me out too. I've learned that I just need to relax and let my body do it's thing.
Glad your Dr. was optimistic! That's always good news!

I'm jealous that you already had your first appointment!
Dr. Google needs to get a better medical degree because his info is wrong more often than not! I dont know anything about betas but I would think that if it was a concern your doc would have mentioned it.
It doesn't hurt to call and ask the nurse to check with the doc to see if your levels are where they should be.

<a href="http://s279.photobucket.com/albums/kk121/behapybride/?action=viewI am a little jealous you got an ultrasound right away! That must have been exciting even if you couldn't see much!
I don't blame you for freaking out about your beta test. I have with both of my pregnancies. Every pregnancy starts and progresses differently though and 56 is still within the normal range for 4 weeks. It's been my experience that it's really the difference in the hormone levels that is the real indicator. Did your doctor have you come back 2 days later to do the test again? The hormone levels should at least double every two days. If your hormones are increasing normally, that's probably a better indicator that things are going well than whatever number you started at.
Your doctor may just have you come in when you're closer to 6 weeks because typically your baby will have grown big enough at that point to look like a jelly bean on an ultrasound. You won't see a profile or a heartbeat at that point, but they will be able to measure the gestational sac and make sure your baby is growing!
He didn't say anything about coming back in. He just said, "your hormone levels are at 56 and your progesterone was 15... so everything looks good and you're definitely pregnant."
He's super thorough. I have a really good friend who is going to him for the second time with her current pregnancy and she told me that he does an ultrasound at every visit... which seems like a lot, but I am not complaining.
I just need to take a chill pill, lol.
