C-sections

Flap of skin over incision site...

Does everyone get this or is it just how your body is? Every time I google 'scars' I see these awful photos.  I do not have any stretch marks, normally thin, and have gained about 27 lbs..

just wondering if everyone has this and is because of the c-section or would you have this with vaginal too?

Re: Flap of skin over incision site...

  • I have a really disgusting "divot" or "pucker" for lack of a better term.  I was very fit/petite pre-pregnancy and only gained 20 lbs overall.  I weighed less a few months pp than I did before I had a baby and still had a disgusting little pucker.  If it happened to someone with my body type I'd think it either happens to everyone or it's just the way I am.  My brother is an OB and I asked him if it was because the surgeon effed up and he said it's possible.  I didn't get any stretch marks either. I am constantly throwing my own pity party about my scar because it really sucks to have a visible reminder.

  • I am SO confused!!! I am trying to figure out if this flap of skin is because of cutting the muscle and the c-section and if it wont be there if you have a vaginal birth.

I was hoping to put on a belly bandit and be flat again..

I have the same thing and i feel the same way about it as you do! C/S was not my first choice as it probably wasn't anyone else's choice either!

  • I think it depends on a number of factors, but I'm no expert.

I wasn't at an ideal weight when I got pregnant and I gained 32 lbs. I had no stretch marks until about 8 months because baby dropped. He dropped pretty low and surprise he was 10.7lbs!!

So all this, I think contributed to the saggy flap. But I also hear of thin women with small babies getting saggy flaps as well so I dunno.

  • I do not have that any flap or extra skin above my incision and I gained 45+ lbs in 28 weeks.  Besides a little extra belly chub and the scar, everything is back to normal for me.  I thought things would never be the same, I am amazed.
  • I had a little flap that went over my scar.  After working out and losing the baby weight plus my skin streching back, or unstreching?, it is gone.

  • I had a c/s and have it. I do alot of ab exercises and while the rest of my stomach has gotten more toned, I still haven't lost the flap. No clue if you have it with a vaginal delivery.

  • It does happen with vaginal births too. There are a lot of factors that contribute to the flap. I have one but it is slowly getting better and I haven't even started exercising yet.
  • I have a flabby lower belly (like right under my belly button) but I don't think I have a flap over the incision. Or maybe I do and that's what you guys are talking about. I don't know. All I know is that I've had the flabby belly for years and it had nothing to do with my pregnancies.

  • I'm 3 weeks pp and I don't have one.  I'm about 20lbs overweight and I gained 35lbs with this pregnancy.  I was not in shape before.
  • I think many women get the flap; it's just flabby baby belly.  But with the c/s incision it's more pronounced, at least in my case.  You would think a scar would protrude but mine is quite flat on the skin now.  But underneath, the tissue and muscles that were sewn together, makes a perfect crease right under the baby belly.  I hate it.  The only good thing about the crease is it hides the ugly scar in it.

  • Yea...it totally sucks!!!  I was 119lbs pre pregnancy, didn't get any stretch marks and gained 40 lbs total in my pregnancy.  I only had a baby boy that was 7lbs, 13oz.  I still have the flap of skin right over my scar!  I weight about 125 now and consider myself still slim.  The damn flap makes me feel fat though...to be honest.  I also have extra skin now around my stomach.  You can't tell when I am sucking in and I can still rock a binkini, but the skin is there from my bell stretching out so much and having a c-section.  I think you will still get the extra skin w/ a vaginal birth b/c your belly still stretches out, but you won't have the flap thing b/c you won't have an incision.
