work at home?

Right now I am a teacher, but I want to be home with my baby so badly when the time comes. Does anyone know of any jobs where I can work from home or have a very flexible schedule?

I really don't know.  I think it's more common if you're in a field/position that allows work to be done from home.  But, think realistically about this.  It's just about impossible to actually get work done with your baby there.  I used to work a few days a week from home (I've since been laid off), but I had to either send DS to my mom's or have her come over and watch him.  I couldn't get any work done and take care of him at the same time.

    You could do tutoring online.

Basically other than the profession you are already experienced in, there are next to no unskilled work-at-home jobs that are legit unless you wanna sell Avon or jewelry or something like that.

I have a friend who was a teacher, and she occasionally tutors or does grading online with cyber school stuff. I think she waited to do anything until her little one was a year old, though. Even working at home takes some amount of your time and energy away from the baby.

I know several mothers who work/have worked for churches, with the youth group or Sunday School stuff. My friend did that for the first six months or so after her son was born; but even though she could sometimes work from home and bring the baby to work with her when she couldn't, again, it took a lot of energy and time. And of course working at a church isn't an option for everyone, I guess.

My husband and I have been practicing living off of his salary and saving mine as much as possible, because we both want for me to be able to stay at home with the baby. It'll be a tight squeeze, but it's possible! :)

I was in Medical Sales before I had my son, who is 3 1/2 months now- it was a real adjustment to go from a full-time career to a full-time mom. I don't have much family to watch him, and I don't want strangers in my house alone with my baby. I came across a skin care line that I can sell from home - and even better, it took away my pregnancy mask, so it definitely works.  I work from home and create my own hours. If you are interested in really working, please contact me and I can give you more detailed information. We have a great support network here in Pittsburgh.

try getting a preschool teaching position..it would only be approx. 3 mornings a week, doesn't pay much but you would have more time with your baby.  But, honestly you do have a good schedule teaching (I use to teach also)..don't do daycare, daycares are open "all year around" but preschools usually are off in the summer and they have school delays along with holidays and snow delays like school.

If you have a master's degree, you can look into being a behavior specialist consultant, which allows a very flexible schedule and quite a bit of work from home. (Though you do have to be in the field sometimes)

That being said, I think the ability to work from home with a LO strongly depends on the TYPE of work you're doing, the motivation you have to do said work, etc.  I fully plan to continue my current job, working from home most of the time, with LO here.  But, I don't have to take phone calls, the type of work I do can easily be interrupted, and I also have the ability to nap whenever- so when baby is napping, I can too, which means I can stay up later and work if needed.  Maybe when they get a bit older I'll have to look into something as far as care goes, but as a newborn, I anticipate no problems.  And this comes after working from home caring for 2 kids that a friend had.
