Sharp Pains In Vagina Anyone?

Hi Ladies,

I am 18 weeks pregnant and have noticed that yesterday and today I have been having sharp, stabbing, pains that feel like they are deep in my vagina or at the cervix.  They are very short in duration, around 1-2 seconds but occur every few minutes.  I "googled" it which of course was useless because you get so many different opposing websites.  I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I am a FTM so I have no idea if these are just "growing pains" or the uterine ligaments stretching.

  • I've heard people say it's baby kicking your cervix... that's what I've been going with cuz it makes it a little less painful to know it's her moving :)

  • I actually felt this yesterday. It lasted no longer than 30 seconds and then was gone. I have also heard it is a result of where the baby is positioned.

  • I experienced this last week. It only lasted a few mins but was pretty painful. I could be wrong but I don't remember this with first two pregnancies.
  • I thought I was crazy!!!

Yes.... I have been getting them all this week at least once a day. If it really is the baby it makes it less annoying for now... but I try to do stretches and it doesn't help... so it makes more sense it could be the baby kicking down  at my cervix area.

Damn! To me it feels like I'm getting stabbed up in there, it's awful.

  • I am SO GLAD you posted this! I was having the exact same problem yesterday and actually called my doc- but of course they weren't open! Mine go from about 3 inches below my belly button on the right side down through my vagina. It is NO FUN. At first I thought maybe it was baby kicking...but geesh that is not pleasant, and I thought that baby kicks were supposed to be nice, not painful!

Anyone asked their doc about this?

  • This is probably from the stretching. I believe last time around on here they called it lightning crotch. It's been happening to me too. Dr. comfirmed that's what it was.

  • I affectionately refer to this as Lighting Crotch because it feels like your vag has been struck by lightning. It is true that it is your LO kicking your cervix. My LO loves me so much that this morning it did it about 15 times while I was at work... ok, more like 5-6 times but it felt like 15.
