I never had surgery before, so I was horrified by the incision and anything touching it. I only wore nightgowns. By the time I went home, I was ready for maternity sweats/ leggings, etc. with waistbands far from the cut.
I have my own hospital gowns that I bought before my c/s with DS1 but other than those I wouldn't bring anything. I can't imagine wearing pants in the hospital after c/s. I'll bring sweats and a t-shirt for going home in but otherwise I'll just wear my own gowns or the ones from the hospital.
If you *are* going to pack tops, tanks etc just anticipate being there for 4 nights and pack accordingly.
My c-section was first thing in the morning and for the rest of that day I wore the hospital gown and I was glad I did. I was a hot, sweaty, itchy mess from all the meds and laying in bed all day. I did get out of bed that evening at my insistence (the nurses were going to have me wait till the next morning) and my hubby helped me with a little sponge bath and I put on a fresh robe and got fresh sheets which helped sooo much. The next morning I got my catheter out, took a shower and put my own maternity yoga pants and nursing tank on. I was 100% more comfortable in my own clothes and I felt a lot better with visitors stopping by and walking in the hallways with actual clothes on. I wore yoga pants, a nursing tank and a hoodie home and it was perfectly comfortable.
Whatever you're more comfortable wearing. I wore the hospital gowns for my entire (five day) stay. I went home wearing PJ pants and a loose top.
This.
Also, I didn't care to switch into any other clothes and didn't want to think about putting pants on. This time for my schedualed c/s I plan to buy a comfy t-shirt material night gown, going to check a maternity store to see if they have BF friendly form of this if not Victoria Secrets has reeally comfy gowns!
Here's the VS gown i was talking about, I'm going with a L so it's slightly bigger and they are long enough for when you get up and start walking around. HTH
I would say a gown. It was hard for me to wear pants...even comfy pants b/c of my incision. Buy some granny panties for when you are home too! The bikini underwear that I normally wear cut right at my incision....ouch!
PPD/PPA Mom...it has been super hard, but I'm making it! Slow steps... Mom to Carter (6), and Calianne (1). Proud VBAC, natural birth, breastfeeding, cloth diapering momma!
I wore maternity yoga pants, nursing tank and a hoodie the whole time I was in the hospital and it was very comfy. I was back and forth to the Nicu, so I wouldn't have been comfortable walking through the hospital (had to go thru lobby to get there) in a gown (just something to think about- we didn't expect DS to be in NICU)

For me I would have preferred nightgowns. You'll have soreness around your incision. My tummy was very sore as well, which I didn't expect. I had mostly yoga pants but was pretty uncomfortable.
