(NBR) Galveston?

I think the hubs and I just need to get out of town for a while to get our mind off of things.  He has a weekend off coming up and I was thinking about going to Galveston Saturday morning and come back Sunday evening.  Is it worth the trip there?  Clearly we wouldn't be going to the beach, but in general is the town a good place to go?

Thanks.

Re: (NBR) Galveston?

  • We did a weekend in Galveston a couple of years ago and had a great time.  There are a few houses you can see (historical mansions) that were interesting.  There is a little museum about the county with a lot of information about the hurricane that destroyed the island-- that was fascinating.  We also walked around on the Strand, had some fabulous seafood meals, and rented bicycles and rode them up and down the sea wall.  There would be plenty to fill an overnight trip just make it leisurely and just enjoy being with each other.  There is also a ferry to another part of the island and the Moody museum which is supposedly botanical gardens but we didn't go.

Fwiw, dh and I went on several weekend getaways after our loss-- including a couple of weekends of just staying at a fancy hotel downtown.  It was very therapeutic-- it helped to be away from the routine, away from the bed where we shed so many tears, and away from where anyone knew us and we could be "unreachable."  Hold each other close and do whatever makes you feel good to keep the relationship strong.  Big hugs.
