Flying during 2ww?

My IUI is tomorrow and then I'm onto the 2ww.  I probably have to fly for work at least once during the 2ww -- and my acupuncturist (a traditional Chinese medicine guy) always says he thinks that's a bad idea.  Has anyone had an RE or other doctor caution them against flying during the 2ww or early pregnancy?  I'm not sure if I should actually try to avoid it or assume the acu is just being overly cautious.

  • I have never heard any valid reasons why you should not fly in early pregnancy. The embryo is pretty well protected in there. Not sure what the concern could be...cabin pressure?

I would think flying would be fine.

  • I have never heard of it being a problem.

I traveled very early in my 1st pregnancy. I had the blood draw for my 2nd beta in the morning and a flight to France the same night...all with the blessing of my RE.  I was just really uncomfortable during the trip b/c of the side effects of the supplemental progesterone. But there was never a risk to the pregnancy due to my travels.

That's my assumption.  I can't think of any other reason, other than radiation, which doesn't seem like it would be that great a risk if you're not flying constantly.

  • I fly during my 2ww almost every month, and my doctor said it was fine.  I've never made it to early pregnancy, but I can't imagine it would be a problem.

PS:  most airlines let you fly up to at least 36 weeks.

  • i flew to the caribbean and back during the 2ww.  spent a week on the beach drinking with friends.  i think the relaxation helped with implantation.  my acupuncturist knew i was flying and didn't say anything ... then again, i was going for fun, not work.  good luck.

Now that's a 2ww regimen that makes sense to me!  :-)
