What kind of carseat do you have?

As the title suggests, I am looking for suggestions on a carseat.  If you could please list what you have gotten for LO (or what you will be getting if you haven't gotten it yet), that would be much appreciated!

Also, where did you do research on which one to get?  I don't have a subscription to Consumer Reports, so that's not helping me.

Did you get a travel system or just a carseat for now?

It may seem that I'm pretty late with figuring all of this out, but I have about six weeks to go still.  :)

Thank you, thank you!

this is what we have for our baby girl. We didn't really research what kind to get. I just knew that Graco was a good brand and what I wanted and DH just went a long with whatever I wanted :)

  • We went with the Baby Trend Encore travel system (green/grey) from target. It has ups/downs reviews (the downs were all somewhat silly IMO - basket doesnt collapse, handle to car seat is hard to push buttons in to fold down. Personally, I feel safer that it is locked so tight if you ask me). We really wanted a baby trend though b/c of the triangle handle. This was our fave out of the choices.

  • We got the Chicco Keyfit. But, we only got the carseat itself(and an extra base for the hubs.) It had a very high safety rating. I just googled best car seat 2011, and things along those lines and read, read, and read some more.

As far as a travel system goes...this is why we did not purchase the whole thing: Those strollers are extremely large and bulky(I've taken care of children and nannied for over 10 years, and could not stand travel systems.) Regardless of what type of vehicle you drive(I drive a Nissan Murano and hubs drives a Sport Track,) it will take up tons of space. They are also relatively heavy. But, the pro to them is the space that you have underneath where the baby will be-the basket is nice and roomy. So you really need to figure out what you need. We decided to get a City Mini with an adapter instead. It is much easier to use, super light, super easy to fold up, and we can use it long term(and will want to use it long term.) It was more expensive from the beginning, but in the long run we are saving money because we won't have to buy a second stroller. We also have a snap and go as well, SIL gave it to us. Those are a great option, too!

FYI: Our City Mini was the 2011 model at BBB. It was marked down to 199.99(new model was coming out), then 179.99  because the color was discontinued. We got the pink color, but they also had blue.

    Good luck!

  • We got a free Britax Advocate from DH's employer, which is a convertible, and also bought an infant bucket seat (Cybex Aton) to go with the stroller we already had as well to make it into a travel system.

This Chicco also came highly recommended from lots of friends.  We also skipped the travel system and got the Baby Trend Snap and Go for a stroller

  • We got the Chicco Key Fit 30. #1 rated by Consumer Reports and highly recommended by everyone we know who has used it. It is very easy to install the base as well.

No travel system for us-too bulky. We did get the Chicco Snap and Go as well as our jogging stroller.

    Good luck!

  • We got the Graco Snugride 30.  I used the Baby Bargains book for research. I felt that the 30 was significantly lighter than the 35 and didn't think the extra 5 pounds would make a difference. Most people said their baby is in the convertible way before it hits 35 lbs.

We did not do a travel system but got the adapter for our stroller, which is the Baby Jogger City Mini.

  • We went with the Britax B-safe.  We haven't purchased a stroller yet.  We'll do that later.  We will probably get the Britax B-agile when we do.

  • We went with the Baby Trend Flex Loc.  we registered for it at Target and will be putting it in the car this week. :)

The reviews at target.com were positive.  DH liked the triangle handle on it as well.  It is super soft too.

Edit: we did not get a travel system.  We are getting the Baby Trend snap and go and will be getting our BOB this spring with our REI dividends.:)

  • Ds2's seat is expiring this month, so we have to buy another. I'm getting the baby trend flex loc.It fits in my small car well. I like that you can tighten straps with a button/knob on the front.  I have had graco's in the past and didn't love them. Chico is too expensive for the six months we will need an infant seat. We generally quit taking the infant seat out of the car with the baby by this point b/c it's too heavy with the baby in it.

  • We needed a new infant seat this time, since baby was unexpected.  I did research through Baby Bargains and CR.  According to CR the top 22 lb seat is chicco keyfit with 79 out of 100 points. For the heigher weight Chicco 30lb had 80 out of 100 points. I was suprised Graco 30/35 were the worst rated with only 56 and 55 pts.

  • We have a Chicco Key Fit 30.  We looked everywhere for recommendations (Baby Bargains book, reviews on BRU/Target/etc, magazines, other parents).  We have the travel system and were really happy that we got it.  We got it because it got the best reviews at the time.  It's really easy to use.  I would recommend it!

  • I got a chicco key fit travel system for the safety ratings. but like others said the stroller is so bulky so i got a lightweight frame, a baby trend snap and go stroller to keep in the car. the chicco stroller i will probably just use at home for walks and when he is older.

    This....

I got the Chicco Keyfit- with the snap and go, and city mini (skipped the adapter)

I did a bunch of research, www.lucieslist.com , consumer reports, and customer reviews....

Graco I read a lot on and that is a great car seat but I heard bad things about the material. I personally didn't like a lot of the feel material most of them were made out of too.

We have both of these - mama in law got them for us. A friend of hers sells baby supplies and said it was the best system. Haven't really played with either yet though.

  • We got a Baby Trend infant seat. For me it was between this and Chicco Keyfit 30. I'm not sure why I didn't look at the Graco's much, I think it was because I didn't like any of the patterns. SO really likes the triangle handle on the Baby Trend so we went with it. Like a PP said, most of the bad reviews I read on it seemed silly. I played with it in the store to make sure I didn't have any issues with it and I really loved it. I tested it out with my 6 month old niece too.

We're getting the Baby Trend Snap'N'Go and then we have an all-terrain stroller.

  • We got the Graco Snugride 35 because of the sale and it was getting positive reviews. It is a little more bulky and heavy, but that's ok with me--it makes me feel like the seat will be safe and secure. Though ask me in a few months how I feel about it ;)

We don't have a stroller yet, but my SIL may be letting us have her snap and go.

  • Almost all of our friends rec'd the Chicco Keyfit or the Graco Snugride.

We ended up going with the Britax B-Safe bc we were looking for a stroller and loved the Britax B-Agile.  The B-Safe is basically the companion infant seat to this stroller with no need for adapters.  I was sold.  I'm pretty easy like that lol.

  • We got the Graco Snugride 35. It got really good reviews in Baby Bargains. The only negative I've heard about it is that it's bulky and heavy but it doesn't seem overly big to me. I'm sure once LO gets bigger I may feel that it's heavy to carry but we'll see.

  • We got the Chicco Keyfit 30.  We didn't want a bulky travel system, so we got the City Mini stroller (which is fabulous!) and just bought the adapter for attaching the carseat.   I've used the Chicco carseat before and really like it.

  • We, too, got the Chicco Keyfit 30... H did a TON of research and was happiest with this one.  We got the stroller too, just b/c when she doesn't need to be in the carseat itself, we'll have a stroller w/out having to buy one for a while.  Now, once she's a little bigger, I definitely want a much more streamlined, stripped down stroller.  We also want to get the BabyTrend Jogger for when she can hold her head up herself so we can go for long walks,etc...
