PSA: Saving big money on prenatal vitamins (kinda long)

I discovered something I wanted to share. It may have already been mentioned on the board at some point, but just in case.

If you are on a prenatal while TTC, like me, you might be interested to know that manufacturers for prescription prenatal vitamins post big $$$ printable coupons on their websites. And I think that if the savings is equal to or greater than your insurance co-pay, you'll get the vitamins for free.

The co-pay for my prenatal is covered on my insurance (Bluecross/Blueshield) as a tier 3 which is $40 (ack!!, tier 1 is just $10 for example). $40 is a lot of money, and I was just going to go with an OTC.

Turns out the company that makes my prenatal has a coupon that allows me to save $30 on every single month of my prescription for up to 9 months!! So, now, I will save $270, and only pay $10 a month for my prescription. If I had a lower copay (say it was a tier 2), I would get the vitamin for free!

The way it works, is you give the coupon to your pharmacist and they enter it into their computer. It will automatically apply the discount until the coupon/offer expires, and the company pays the $30 to the pharmacist directly.

Out of curiosity, I looked up a few different prenatals and found that there are coupons out there for: NexaSelect or PreNexa ($30 off monthly for 9 months) and CitraNatal ($10 off for 10 months). Those are the only brands my OB ever prescribed for me, so they are the only ones I know, but if you search your prescription brand and "coupon", you might find one for yours.

On a related note, I did the same thing for my non-TTC-related prescriptions, and there are ones out there for those, too. I just printed a coupon for a one-time $20 off on my singulair prescription.

  • This is interesting.  Might check into it-but I just bought a bottle of gummie vitamins.  250 vitamins (take 2 each day) for around $20 at Sams Club.  I think I'm set for at least a couple months.  Thanks for sharing.
