TTC after 35

New here and have a ? about if this is the right board for me.

Hi, My name is Camille and I'm sort of new here. I lurk on occasion, but I had a question as to whether you guys here think that this is the board I should be on. I'm 39 and TTC my third. I had my 1st at 35 my DS on 3/4/08 and then had 2 M/C then got PG with my DD and had her on 6/29/10. We weren't trying too hard since about October 2011 but then got PG in December of 2011 and found out it wasn't viable in the next week. So I don't know if I have any fertility problems yet since I'm getting older now but talked to my OB about it and he told me to hold off and try to get PG naturally after my next Cycle. But he did prescribe me Letrozole for when he thinks I might need to use it and going to get some lab work done too if I don't get PG while actively TTC in the next 2 months. BTW does anyone here know anything about Letrozole. Sorry this is a bit long but would like to be welcomed or let known if I'm in the wrong place. Thanks!

Re: New here and have a ? about if this is the right board for me.

  • This is absolutely the right place for you. Welcome. Some women on this board have more challenges getting pregnant than others, but we are not the Infertility board. However, most will advice against taking any sort of fertility meds without being closely monitored by an RE. Although most OB/GYNs will prescribe Clomid or Femara pretty easily.

Letrozole is generic Femara, which is a cancer blocking agent used off label to stimulate the ovaries for ovulation. Same thing as Clomid, basically. Not sure why you would need it since you were able to get pregnant fairly quickly the last time.

I would start with some bloodwork on day 3 or your cycle to test your hormone levels which will be the best indicator of your ovarian reserve.

Best of luck to you. I hoe your stay with us is short and sweet!

  • Welcome.

I also don't advise taking fertility meds without the care of an RE.  I'm sorry for your loss and I hope your stay here is short.

  • Thanks, this is something to think about. My OB/GYN is Dr. Reue who is part of the OB/GYN group of Austin at Seton Medical Tower. That said it is a Catholic hospital so depending on your views, this may or may not be the place for some. I'm not Catholic by any means but I am spiritual and have a lot of trust when it comes to my OB. He seems very educated and hasn't steered me wrong yet.

I'm with them as well, although with a different doctor.  Love them!
