C-sections

Scar Massage

Hi Ladies,

I had a c-section on December 30th. The steri-strips are finally off, and I am trying to figure out when I should start massaging the scar. There was an OB at the hospital who had told me when I was there, but I don't seem to have retained much info. during that time- I've forgotten!!! I think she said 10 days or so. I do remember that she said to massage it with bio-oil.

What's your experience? When did you start, and did you find that it helped the appearance of your scar?

Thanks!

Re: Scar Massage

  • I'm reading the "Essential C-Section Guide," which someone recommended on this board a couple of weeks ago. I actually just read about Scar Massage this morning. According to the OB quoted in the book, you could begin massaging the site 3 weeks after surgery, once the incision site is healed. The book advises to use a dollop of cocoa butter or a dab of vitamin E oil, and smooth it over the scar, rubbing in small circular motions. It says to do it for about 5 minutes a day for a few months. I bought some cocoa butter and vitamin E oil today so I can try this after my c-section. Good luck!

  • What I did was bought a jar of Vit E, poked a hole in the capsule and used 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 at night.  I started once it didn't hurt to touch.

I also did brissle brush massage to gain back feeling in my stomach and help with the scar tissue.  But this was much later, closer to 6 months PP.
