Rash from being worn?

Have any of your LOs broken out in a rash from being worn too much?  If so, any tips for prevention?

My DS has gotten a dry, red rash on his chest/stomach area, and now on his back, and I think it is spreading to his legs.  We haven't changed any soaps/lotions/ detergents, so I feel confident it isn't that.  He doesn't seem bothered by the rash.

The only way I can get him to nap is in the Ergo, so he's been spending about 2 hours in there daily, plus any time we spend out running errands, etc.  If that's what's causing the rash, we're screwed!  I've tried dressing him in just a onesie so he doesn't get too warm, but then I end up defeating that whole purpose by wrapping a blanket around him so he doesn't get cold.

We have a pedi appt next week so I'll have it checked then, but just trying to see if I can figure out the cause.  Thanks for any help!

Re: Rash from being worn?

  • Is it a heat rash? LO used to get some heat rash when it was hot around here, but she's just fine when it's cooler. Is it from rubbing for just contact?

I think it is some sort of heat rash, but it doesn't go away once he's out of the Ergo.  I'm guessing maybe the heat causes irritation to his skin??

  • My LO has had a rash, too, and the pedi said it's dry winter baby skin.  We've been oiling her up like crazy and it's going away.
  • When lo would get a heat rash it would last for a while - like a day or so of red bumps. The overall redness would go away sooner though. But it only really happened when it was in the 90's and she would get really sweaty with dh in the ergo.

  • Sounds like heat rash/prickly heat.  It does not go away after taking them away from the warm clothing/area/etc.  It can take a few days for it to resolve.  As long as they are brought to a more comfortable temperature it shouldn't cause any harm.
