Pajamas for hospital?

What did/are you bringing to the hospital to wear? With my first, it was warm out so I had night gowns. I am not sure since its cold now. I have a c/s scheduled so I am trying to plan accordingly.

  • I'm curious about this, too.  I've heard differing opinions, including that there'll be so much blood that you might not want to wear your own pjs.  Otherwise, I was planning on getting a nursing nightgown with a robe...  but I live in an area that's pretty temperate temperature-wise.

  • I have a pair of yoga pants and a couple tanks packed. I am also bringing a robe to throw in the car trunk in case I get colder and the hospital blankets don't do it for me.

  • I was so much more comfortable in my own flannel Jammies (button up top).  The nursing hospital gowns sucked. I hardly bled at all because I had a c section though.

  • I am bringing two pairs, one heavier set and one lighter.  It will be winter, but I think our hospital is usually pretty warm...so I wasn't sure what to pack.

  • I didn't bring anything, just stayed in the hospital gown until we were getting ready to leave.  I did bring a robe, slippers and socks.

  • I have hospital gowns (like these-- https://amzn.to/xnMwcU) that I bought for my c/s with DS1.  I wore them with DS2 and will be bringing them again.  For a c/s, I wouldn't bother with pajamas or yoga pants or anything.  I'd just wear the hospital gown if I didn't have my own.

Also, people often say you "bleed all over them so why bother?" but that hasn't been my experience.  I had tons of bleeding the first time I stood up because it had been about 24 hours pp but after my cath was out and I could walk around whenever I wanted, I didn't bleed on anything but the hospital pads!

  • I'm bringing yoga pants, tank tops and a super comfy robe made out of sweatshirt material.

  • This is what I brought last week. It was wonderful being in my own clothing. I did use the hospital gown as a robe a few times when it got too warm for my fuzzy robe. Next time I'll just bring yoga pants and nursing tanks.

  • I made two hospital gowns to take with me and I've also packed an old oversized night gown and my nice maternity pjs.  I'll most likely wear the pjs home instead of getting dressed in regular clothes.  I picked up two pairs of fuzzy socks with grippers on the bottom to wear around the hospital.  If they get yucky I can just throw them away as they only cost $2.50.

Everyone goes on and on about nursing tanks and yoga pants, however, I'm a plus size gal and I can't seem to find any in my size.

  • I'm bringing nursing tanks and will wear those with either the hospital gown or yoga pants if i'm feeling up for putting pants on. With DS1 I got the night sweats so bad that even though it was summer and the a/c was on in the room I would still wake up drenched in sweat feeling like it was 110 degrees.

  • I laboured in a hospital gown, gave birth at 11:00 p.m., and stayed in that gown until around 7 the next morning. After that I put on a nightgown that I had bought. It was nice to be in something new. I felt refreshed and ready to receive family members, too. It's just important that you can breastfeed (if you're doing that) in your nightgown. (One that I'd brought wasn't appropriate for that). I was in for two days, and on the second day I was in a nursing tank and yoga pants.

I went to a breastfeeding class on day two - some were in hospital gowns and some were in their own clothes. I have to say, not that it matters what you look like after giving birth - but those in their own clothes just looked more relaxed. Maybe I'm wrong but that was my perception.

Also, re: blood on your pyjamas - I actually had a complication at birth that involved a lot of bleeding. I had such giant hospital pads that it didn't get on my gowns at all.

  • EVERYONE in my room, visitors and nurses, were saying it was so cold and I thought "That's so weird that they're all saying the same thing when it's perfectly comfortable in here..."  One nurse eventually checked the thermostat to be sure it was warm enough for the baby...it was 63-degrees.  Oops.  Your postpartum hormones will keep you TOASTY.  I was in short sleeves (a sleep T) and socks and was sweating when they put the heat up to 70-degrees, which they said was where I should keep it for LJ...and so the socks came off unless I was walking around, but in bed it was barefoot and a sleep T, period!
