For the past year or so I'm constantly replacing our porch bulbs like every three months. I turn them on overnight and off in the am. Is this normal or am I using the wrong bulbs?
We've had that problem for a few different reasons (welcome to my electrical hell):
1. On the back porch, we were using florescent, and replacing (expensive bulbs!) constantly. For unknown reasons, when we switched to regular light bulbs, they quit burning out as quickly.
2. In our upstairs hallway, there was a wiring problem with the switch. When we corrected that, bulbs quit burning out frequently.
3. In our kitchen, we had a floresent fixture to too powerful a connection (forgive my lack of electrical knowledge and therefore lack of technical terms), so it was blowing the bubls. We switched the fixture to non florescent, and now it's okay.
LOL, all that non-helpful information said, this still happens on our front porch.
If your light fixture uses those candle-shaped bulbs, you're probably not doing anything wrong...those things just don't last very long. Do you have to leave the light on all night? We usually flip ours off when we head to bed.
