Thoughts?

We've hashed it out on FB long ago but I was wondering what everyone else's thoughts are on this lovely contraption, the DIVA CUP.

We're TTC and I'm thinking I should just order it so I'll get pregnant and not be able to use it for at least a year. I wanna try it, but MarSam thinks they don't have a size big enough for me.

Has anyone here tried it, heard of it, or have it on their Valentine's day wish list?

Re: Thoughts?

  • I've never tried it, but have heard great things.

Here's a tip for getting pregnant: Order a package of 30 pregnancy tests. You'll only need to use one or two and the rest will expire before you ever need them again. It worked for me. True story.

  • I haven't tried it and not sure how I would feel about it.

My tip for getting pregnant - say you are done with having kids, be on birth control and you'll have an oops-baby.  Or least that is how it worked for me.

  • Never used it.  Don't want to.

I just bought a huge pack of tests (per SH's recommendation) and am on birth control.  Does this mean I am KU right now?

  • Seems like you'll have to move to Canada to use it.

I must be slow because I don't get it.

  • Quote: BUY NOW!  Have you ever co-opted toilet paper from a public washroom as a temporary measure or left a party with a jacket tied around your waist? The DivaCup to the rescue ?

    Also, it's reusable. That's great!

  • I bought 25 of the Wondfo pregnancy tests in October and I'm down to my last 3. I do love to POAS though. I'm never going on birth control again, when we are done DH is getting fixed ;) and maybe me too, just in case. I need something else to get me pregnant besides sex because that obviously isn't working :P

MLD the diva cup is inserted sort of like a diaphragm and catches the discharge. Then you empty, supposedly just twice a day even for heavy flows. Hope that makes sense!

DH never wants this pregnancy to end because he already knows that he is getting snipped. Not willingly, but I'm not taking BCP for the next 20 years, and I'm not down with the Mirena (not covered by insurance, either) or depo shots. He gets his vasectomy for free. w00t w00t!

PS - I saw some thing on the interwebz about having sex and then putting the diva cup in to make sure the sperms don't escape. I wish I was kidding.

  • I know you're being sarcastic, but I love my diva cup.  I have really tissue-y, clot-y periods, so tampons never worked properly for me, and they were super heavy so even if tampons worked I'd have to change them pretty constantly.  So yeah, diva cups are amazing.  You can make laugh up your sleeve all you want.

Also, I bought my size 1 and was able to use it for one stupid period before I got KU.  Size 1 still works just fine, but then I didn't have a vaginal delivery.

NOPE! I'm actually very serious about it. I'm all about cutting out the paper/disposable crap in my life. I'm sick of tampons and never liked pads. I've just put off buying it because I'm hoping to be pregnant. I'm using this post to spread the word.

Come on Broc I'm not ALWAYS sarcastic, just 99% of the time ;)

DH has gotten comfortable with the idea after my simple logic of "I carrry, push out and breast feed the babies, you can go in for a simple 30 minutes out-patient procedure"

Obviously now that the Diva cup will be useful in my conception methods there's nothing to hold me back from buying it, but I don't think I'm going to use it post-coital I actually prefer to stand on my head.

  • Well, you've already had a few so I'd just buy size 2.  There isn't a ton of difference between the sizes, really.  You may want to also look into the other brands... the Keeper is solid rubber, and the Mooncup is similar to the Diva, but is British and fits slightly differently.  I believe the Mooncup's silicone can be tinted too, if you'd prefer one in purple or something.

It's only $25, and you'll be able to use it after you have the kid.  I kinda figured that as soon as I ordered it I'd get KU, which is exactly what happened.

Thank you for the advice. I've looked at the mooncup too, but not the Keeper.

I figure after the quadruplets are born they'll have to make a special size for me.

  • Lunette is another brand (and comes in colors) but they're like $40 so I eliminated those immediately when I was looking for mine.

The immature side of me wonders if people get dif colors to match their outfits.

  • Oh, and if you want to try one out before you 'invest', you can (allegedly) buy Instead cups at CVS, but I've never seen them.  They fit a bit differently though, kind of like a NuvaRing.  They're disposable, but way cheaper.

  • I love the Diva Cup. I've been using it for years. My most favorite part is that I don't ever go "oh crap, I ran out of pads/tampons!" On my heaviest days I empty it about 3, maybe 4, times. I've been meaning to get the size 2, but procrastinated and then ran out of pads so I used the size 1 and it's been fine. But after the quadruplets are born you should definitely get the size 2.

  • seriously: I credit anyone using it to save $ on sanitary supplies and to prevent that crap from adding to their trash.  However, I have to say I am a little skeeved to imagine someone exiting a public bathroom stall after changing it.  There has to be a little something on your hands (and thus on the stall door handle) after changing that.

    No?

  • I had NO IDEA you were SERIOUS!!??!!

    No?

I gotta say, I feel that overall it's kind of cleaner with the cup. I rarely end up having to change it in public (which was my worry before I got it). When I've had to, I just open the stall with the other hand. Door handles in public bathrooms make me ill regardless. I'm the freak who's opening everything with paper towels when I'm in there.
