D.C. Area Babies

Learn from my mistake

We went to the play area at Montgomery Mall, and I left DS's jacket in one cubby outside the play area and his shoes in another. We played for about 20 minutes and when it came time to leave, his jacket was gone. Ugh. I asked everyone in the play area if they'd taken the jacket by mistake, including another parent that had a similar colored jacket. No dice. So we reported it to the information desk, who had to issue a mall-wide theft alert. The story has a happy ending - It turned out to be an honest mistake. DH spotted a grandparent carrying the jacket, who had mistakenly picked it up thinking it belonged to his grandkid, and they gave it back to us and got their own jacket back from the cubbies.

I felt like a total chump the whole time the jacket was missing. Next time I will hold onto his stuff. And I'm taking recommendations on label makers for clothes.

  • I'm always fearful of leaving DS's things laying around at the mall play area.  Recently, DH had the same thing happen to himself at the gym.  Unfortunately it wasn't an honest mistake--the thief left his cell phone on the floor and took of with his coat.

  • I always worry about this. I feel like even if you have tags on things, sometimes people could accidentally pick up the wrong item. I'm glad you were able to get it back.

You asked for recs on labels. I've heard good things about Mabel's labels but I thought they were a little pricey. I got some iron on labels from this company. I think it was only about $4 for 25 labels including shipping which I thought was reasonable. They've held up really well. Some of them have been on DD's clothes for well over a year.

Thanks for the rec! I have used Mabel's Labels but the prices are getting a little ridiculous!
