Intro and ob/gyn recommendation needed

Hello everyone!

I just found out I'm pregnant 3 days ago, am due in September. I live in Maplewood and work in Woodbury.

Can anyone provide feedback about Health Partners clinic in Woodbury and delivery at Regions Hospital? I'm also considering Partners OB-GYN in Maplewood and delivery at St John's Hospital. Both are very convenient for me, but I'm open to other suggestions as well.

Look forward to getting to know all of you. Thanks in advance!

  • Would you be open to using a midwife? I can't say enough good things about the Health East midwives. They are amazing! They have a clinic attached to Woodwinds (as well as others in the east metro) and deliver at Woodwinds and St. Joes

  • I delivered at Regions with DD 1, and won't go back.

I delivered DD 2 at St John's, and would go back if I had to. She was supposed to be born at Hudson hospital, and I'm still sad that we didn't make it there.

I would encourage you to at least look at Dr Hartung at Hudson. He's amazing.

  • I delivered at St.Johns and loved it!  It's very nice and the nurses are great : )

  • I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Baram at WBY HP...  He and the other docs in the practice deliver at St. John's and Regions.  He's been fantastic as an OB/GYN..  The other thing is, if you have any problems/complications, he's the guy you want in your corner!!  He came recommended to me by the guy who was at the time head of the Regions ER when I delivered DD.  He was more precautionary with me and up front along the way when I had complications with this past PG.  He also wasn't afraid to tell me the way things were without sugar coating it or making me feel bad or anything like that.  He also took the time to stop in while I was there PP (which was nice because the whole meds thing got messed up PP so I "felt" that if it still was after being discharged just to give him a call and he'd straighten it out for me)

One thing though with both hospitals is that you won't necessarily have your own doc for the delivery.  The other docs in the practice are good too.  This PG/PP I had more issues than I did when I had DD so I've met more and they've all been great (I had two overnight trips to Regions L&D over the course of the PG before the main event).  Choose where you're going to deliver based on which makes the most sense for you and your LO should any issues arise.  This time around I was pretty neutral about where I wanted to deliver (More than once when asked my response was "I don't care if I have to deliver in a barn as long as I get a good epidural") and ultimately ended up delivering at Regions.  The L&D staff was amazing all three times I was there.  I'd say that after DS spent time in the PICU at Children's in SP that easily United has far better food, but the only thing with Regions I was slightly/somewhat disappointed with was the PP shift nurses I had in general this time around..

  • I went to Partners and saw Dr Votel. I liked her, although she was not the one who delivered DD. But really, at that point I didn't care what doctor was there. I delivered at St John's and really liked it. Was in labor for 30+ hours so saw a ton of nurses, and out of all of them there was only one I wasn't a huge fan of. I did feel like the lactation consultant could have done better, but overall I had a good experience with the hospital.

What is it about the LC's in this area - seems like none of them are worth their salt...
