First Birthday

Alrighty...Don't have to worry about this till July 27th but need to start planning and finding a place to hold DD birthday!  We are inviting all of our friends and family maybe 60 people.  Most of our friends have younger children in the ages from 1 to 8.  Should I have it at home and have all the kids bored or should I have it at a fun center?  Is the fun centers approriate for a 1 year old birthday party.  Bette's Fun Center holds tons of birthday parties. 

 

Planning an outside birthday party in July in Philly during rainy July is iffy.

    Maybe try to get a shelter house at a city park?

    My 1 year old really did not do a lot, and he was not quite walking yet when he turned 1 years old. We held it at a pizza place at a really nice shopping center and kept it simple and fun. We had the party from 11:00am to 1:00pm, so this worked really well for the babies who were around 1 years old.  When he gets older, I am probably going to find like a soccer place or some kind of fun center when I know he will enjoy it more.  Is there a place that she likes to go?

Baby measured 9 weeks, still a heartbeat 12/23/09. Good NT Scan on 1/8/10, heartbeat 164. EDD 7/28/10. TEAM BLUE! Aidan Thomas born on May 26, 2010. Baby #2, BFP 11/27/11, EDD 6/5/12. TEAM PINK! Noelle Elizabeth born 4/30/12. Blessing from God, Blessing from God, Blessing from God, Blessing from God.

    I am also in Philly area. While I am sure some people may disagree with me, I kind of feel like the 1st birthday is more for the family/parents.  I think in the next several years it will be more about kid.  We did my sons at my MILs in May, and I went crazy- ordered a tent (incase it rained or was too sunny, etc...), rented tables, chairs, had alcohol, etc.  I hired a music lady for the kids, but my MIL just got a new swingset so the kids preferred that.  The highlight of the party was when one of the 5 year olds whipped out his playdoh.  All the kids gathered round and had a blast.  Anyway, are you planning on inviting aunts, uncles, cousins and others without young kids.  If so, you may want to do party around them and save Bette's or somewhere else fun for the following years when they will not be invited.  What was nice about a house was that many extended family members had not met my son yet, it was a great family and friend gathering, people could hang longer than the 2 hour slot, and the kids had a blast just being kids.

    I agree with you.  I wanted to do her 1st birthday and go all out but I think something low key is what we need after the year we will have to look back on.  My mom does have a huge backyard and a decent size house.  We were thinking of getting the tents as well.  July in Philly will be off and on rain and humid and muggy and I hope and pray mother nature will be on my side that day!  Thank you for your suggestions!
