Breastfeeding

green poop...

My DS is 12 weeks old. Last night after his dinner time feeding, he pooped and it was green. This was his first poop that was different from the normal yellowy mustard looking breast fed baby poop. Today he had at least 3 poops that were back to the normal color, but then again this evening after his dinner time feeding it was green again. What could this mean? I've seen so many different reasons as to why it could be green so I just don't know. Should I call the doctor?

Re: green poop...

  • My daughter's poop is green anytime I eat green leafy vegetables.  Could that be the cause?

  • If you have an over supply it could be ecause your baby is getting too much foremilk.. make sure the baby is totally emptying the breast before switching sides or just feed from one side if your baby is full after the first breast to make sure he is getting the fatty milk in the back.

I wouldnt be overly concerned. :)

  • My DD pooped green for weeks, pedi said it's in the range of normal and just indicates where in LO's digestive tract the most is absorbed. So long as LO doesn't seem otherwise bothered it's nothing to worry about.

  • Green Yellow and Orange are all healthy poops ...green could mean the baby is getting to much foremilk, more hind milk give more of a yellow poop. Either way its perfectly fine.
